Contact naps / night time sleeping

Help.. my 12 day old is now refusing to sleep anywhere other than in arms of either myself or my partner. He goes back to work on Monday and I’m still heeling from a traumatic birth and health complications so really need to get a few hours at least but struggling to do so because LO wants to be held 24/7.

Anyone got any tips or tricks that will help?

May I ask what does she sleep in?

My daughter was the same initially she had a next to me but she hated it!

So we moved her to a cot and she loved it, she self soothes but occasionally she will want a hug etc it's only natural.

My middle child was prem at 24wks , I didn't find it traumatic but I totally get the whole hands on and just wanting to love your child 24.7 , maybe get a Zacky arm so she feels comfort.

This is very normal. Have a read up on the 4th trimester.

Have you tried co-sleeping? Read up on the safe 7 on the lullaby trust for how do do it safely.

And for during the day if you want to do things, then a selling is a life saver.

I also have a great guide on all the support that is available to you as a new mum, you can get it here if you would like it https://childcarenavigator.co.uk/availablesupportguide

Hi Abbie, I can only offer my commiserations, but no good solution. Our little boy simply refused to be put on his back anywhere until about 7 weeks old, so at first he slept on his tummy on my or my husband's chest and we took turns during the night to give each other some sleep. Eventually we got comfortable to doze off with him on us for an hour or so, so I started getting some short naps during the day too.
Then we started putting him on his side (as he seemed marginally more comfortable than on his back) in a cocoon or his bedside crib once he was fast asleep. He would wake up quite soon and I still had to hold him if I wanted him to sleep for longer, but gradually he got used to sleeping on his own.
You're right in the thick of it, but it will get better! Just take one day at a time and if you have anyone to come and be with you during the day and hold the baby even for an hour or so, so you could get a nap - that's the best thing you can do. Use any help you can get and don't hesitate to ask!

My baby only sleeps in my arms too. If I put him down he just wakes up. Can be exhausting

When do things get easier?

As we entered the 9-12 month stage, my son started crawling and pulling himself up. He also became more clingy and does not play alone, still doesnt sleep through the night, and this week has been sick (so EVERYTHING amplified). I am tired and overwhelmed. Please lie and tell me things get better. 🥺

Colostrum storing?

Has anyone successfully extracted colostrum before the baby’s born? Apparently it gets produced from 16w pregnant and you can start storing it in the freezer but I’m 34w looking at my nipples and the syringes on amazon wondering how it works?? Like what did you use and did it hurt? 🥲

4 month bed time

What time do you put your babies to bed?
What time do you start your 'routine?'
My LO currently goes to bed around 10.30pm, and I know i need to start bringing it forward. Everytime ive tried, it takes longer for my LO to settle.
We are exclusively breastfeeding. Any advice Mamas?

Combi feeding advice

Has anyone gone from EBF to combi feeding? Currently do one bottle of EBM per night and they one half formula half breast milk mixed in the day. The other times she still feeds on me. Ideally I want to feed all day via bottle and all night with breast. She’s 7 weeks and takes a bottle well, how long should I leave it before adding another bottle to her daily routine?

Self settling

Any tips or advice of how to teach 6.5month old to self settle? I’m up multiple times in the night to cuddle her back to sleep and put the dummy in. I understand she will wake up and want a cuddle etc but any tips on self settling would be appreciated 🥰
