Hello,
I’m so crushed. It seems my 21mo is not into water (she likes baths as long as we don’t wash her hair). We were invited to a friends house where there’s a pool and she was not having it (I did not force her but every attempt was a failure)
If I could I would definitely live in water. We don’t have a pool but last summer I’d go to splash pads and pools every chance I got. She seemed to like it then…
Nothing has happened since. At least nothing that I can recall.
Is this just a phase? Is there anything I can do to help her like it more? We booked an Airbnb for this summers vacation and specifically picked one with a pool and now I am worried we won’t be able to enjoy it 😭
Any tips? TIA!

Maybe start with splash pads this year and see how she does? How about a little kiddie pool with only a few inches of water? Or a sprinkler or something along those lines. Sometimes big pools can be intimidating to their little selfs. We had my son in swim lessons around 6 months old for about 5 months and he loved it from the beginning and has loved water ever since. This was him today swimming in our pool. I would recommend just easing her into it and letting her become more curious on her own!

Probably just a phase. All of my kids have gone through a phase of being afraid of the water. But swim lessons definitely help!!

I used to take her to family swim once a week but when she moved on to only one nap the time clashed with her one and only nap so we stopped going :(
She seems ok with the kiddie pool. I don’t think she likes water on her face so splashing seems not fun for her… I’ll keep taking her to splash pads and hope she realizes it’s not terrible to have water splashed on your face

My toddler was like this too! I started giving her showers instead of baths and it helped a ton because she got use to the water touching her face/hair. You can still fill up some water for a bath but have the shower head running.. kinda like a sprinkler lol

I don't have any advice, but I'm in the same boat with my little one! He will only warm up to 0 depth entry pools after like 15-20 minutes and will only go in to his knees.

I’ve found that adding some super fun water toys helps my son forget about his fear of water

I think something that helped too is if she gets splashed or water on her, just smile super big and giggle and it makes them feel less stressed about it. Try not to freak out or tell her “it’s just water” that was my first mistake when introducing him to water
