Nappy changing at night?

Wondering if anyone has removed the nappy change element of the night feeds yet, and if so at what age? The nappy changes wake my little girl up so much as I have to turn a light on, whereas the feeds I can do in the dark and keep her nice and sleepy. We very, very rarely have any poos overnight now so wondering if I could cut the changes out? I am sure it would reduce the night wakes to 15-20 minutes rather than over an hour each time!

As soon as my daughter started sleeping through the night we stopped night changes, she went 8 hours without a change last night and no leaks ☺️ she’s also 9 weeks old x

We never do nappy changes overnight unless it’s a poo x

We also have massively reduced these unless she’s done a poo! She’s 6 weeks old and it makes our nights so much smoother. I’ve put more sudocreme on her as was worried about nappy rash but she’s been fine x

@Lily my boy just turned 2 months and have slept 8/9 hours for last couple of night 🙌 (hope it lasts 😂). Just a question. What nappy do u use to make sure she is comfortable all night and hold the pees for that long?

@Lily any tips with babies sleeping through the night? My son is 7 weeks and we still wake up every 2-3 hours for a feed and nappy change. I have noticed if we fed him at 11 he can go 4 hours if we let him but I think I worry that he won’t be drinking enough etc. x

@Bea if he is back to his birth weight you don’t need to wake him for a feed he will wake if he is hungry my daughter is 8 weeks and she fed at 10.00 last night then work up at 6.45 with no during the night feeds xx

@Rudi that’s amazing! I’ve been trailing loads of different brands, tesco, Aldi, lidl and Asda and to be honest I’ve not found that any have leaked! My favourites will have to be tesco and Aldi though!

@Bea I let my baby guide me to be honest with you! She never really dipped under her birth weight so I fed her on demand when she was hungry up until around 7-8 weeks to when we started to follow every 4 hours. I started giving last feed at 10.30 pm and that allowed her to sleep through till around 6am and I’ve slowly brought the time back so now her last feed is at 9.30pm and she won’t wake till 7am! Your baby will let you know exactly what they need/when they need it! If they’re not waking through the night themselves then you enjoy the sleep!! Youre doing an amazing job mumma! X

@Lily hi, can I ask how you started getting feeds to be every 4 hours? Do you use formula or breastfed? My baby is starting to sleep longer stretches (5 h for the first time Ln!) and I've been trying to stay getting a bit of a routine with feeds throughout the day but it's not really going well and I still end up feeding on demand x

@Jas hey! It just sort of naturally fell that way! If she’s showing signs she’s hungry before the 4 hours then I will feed her but then follow the 4 hours from the last feed.. if that makes sense 😂 How old is your little one?? My noticed my girl would want to feed more often in the evenings, almost like she was setting herself up to sleep through the night and now she just does 6oz every 4 hours so that works out at 5 feeds a day for her!

I do a nappy chsngr after the second night feed. Sometimes that's around 1 am, sometimes in the early morning. But unless there id poo I sctually do it in the moses baskey and just usr a disposable liner, as that means less moving bsby around.

@Lily I see, thank you! I'll try like you say and keep to the 4 hours but feed in-between if she wants it x

I change baby just before bed and when she wakes at night for her feed I change her mid bottle so the rest of bottle relaxes her and she’ll go back down.

@Kate so he’s always gained weight and is now over 11lbs and tracking at 50% percentile. The issue is sometimes he paces himself and only eats 60ml until he falls asleep again. Do you think we are on too slow a teet? We have size 2 in the cupboard but because he guzzles I worry a faster teet he will bring it up? Xx

@Lily we are on 9 feeds a day and can range from 30mls to 150mls. Mostly downing 110mls. HV said he’s pacing himself. Do you burp after every ounce?

@Bea I used to burp about half way through a bottle but now I just give her the whole 6oz and burp after! She’s never been a sicky baby so I’ve not had to worry about her bringing it back up. If she doesn’t finish a bottle/falls asleep I will burp her and give it 10-15 mins and try again and usually she will finish the rest x

My boy is 6 weeks and I only change if he's had a poop x

@Lily thanks, he doesn’t leak usually, I just want the best comfort for the long night sleeps for him :) will try tesco one for the nights x

@Bea my daughter is on size 0 Mam teats and seems ok you can try the other teat if you like my daughter drinks nearly 2.00 ml or more xx

Stopped when he slept through at 6 weeks and he’s 7 weeks and 3 days now. Unless I can smell that he’s pooped I leave him until he wakes up

@Kate I’m curious. Does your daughter go to bed after 10pm feed? Or was she already in bed and you woke her for this feed?

Hi there. Curious to know where you feed your babies at night? Do you take them into a separate room? Or do it in bed next to their next to me? I take him to his nursery but wondering if that keeps waking him more?

@Sarah I do it in bed x

@Sarah I stay right next to her crib. For us, the least disturbance to her, the better 😄 I feed 2oz to calm her, change nappy on her changing mat on my bed and then the remaining 2oz and she settles back in her crib x

@Sarah I think that’s part of the problem for me - where I am changing her nappy I will take her into the nursery next door. If I ditch the nappy changes I will just feed in bed and that’s hopefully less disturbance! X

@Harriet i would advise to change before u feed, usually the milk is what makes them sleepy and then changing their nappy disturbs them

I change my baby’s nappy when he wakes for a feed during the night, He’s nearly 9 weeks old and wakes up once now, I’ll usually feed him half of his bottle, then change nappy and give the rest of the bottle, And he always goes straight back to sleep once placed back in his crib. I use the torch on my phone lol x

I also do feed…change…feed, just because the big feed at the beginning has previously caused her to poo straight away, so it’s frustrating if I’ve already just changed her nappy! Although now the night time poos have significantly reduced I think I can change that x

We have a red light, I turn that on to do the nappy and also need it to see where to latch most of the time. She seems to stay sleepy with it. I only change if she's pooed though and I unwrap her as little as possible

I always do nappy change first and then feed, to avoid waken her up after I fed her

I do nappy change first and then feed him in bed to get him sleepy again. The white noise machine I use has a small light on which I use if needed!
