I found out I have partial cord insertion by looking at my notes from my anatomy scan this week. There are recommendations in the notes for additional growth scans and warnings that this can lead to premature birth, etc. but the MFM doctor who saw me after the anatomy scan didn’t even bring it up to me 🙄 Has anyone else been diagnosed with this? What have the recommendations been?

Yes! I had to have two 20 wk scans because the first they couldn’t see everything. By the first scan said normal cord and placenta. The second said MCI. My OBGYN wrote me a message and said it’s low risk but they’ll monitor my belly size at each appt and then recommend another ultrasound at wk 32. Most of what I’ve come across indicates it really is a low risk and often no impact. Plus odd that it didn’t show up on first scan, my OBGYN said it could be an “overcall.” It did freak me out initially but I’m hopeful all will be fine!

Yep, I have a marginal cord insertion this time around ( my other 3 were normal) I am having another scan this week at 24 weeks to see if it has improved and get the last set of pictures they needed from anatomy scan supposing there is no change then another at 28 weeks to check his growth and possibly every two weeks until 36 weeks where it will be every week up to delivery. I am over 36 and I have a history of preterm birth (36 weeks) and early term (38+1 and 38+6) so they want to keep a close eye on his growth. My MFM ob said that I shouldn’t stress it can lead to early induction from igur but it also has many cases of no impact and that it is just something to watch and also that my third trimester kick counts will be important to monitor. I looked into it a fair bit and most studies show low percentage of impacts(under 5%) from it and that it can correct itself as the placenta grows as well so I am trying to not stress and trusting my team to keep an eye on it.

Same! I was told that it’s nothing to worry about because the baby is still on track with her growth and measurements but that they recommend another ultrasound at 30 weeks to see how she’s doing

I had marginal cord insertion with my first. For me it meant the umbilical cord was attached at the side of my placenta versus right in the middle. There is a very small chance that it can mess with baby's growth/nutrition which is why they may have added more scans. I'm currently cuddling my very healthy 3 year old daughter that I had it with. It's good to be aware of but I have high hopes that everything will be fine ❤️
