First time mom! 3 month old is fighting naps. He becomes hysterical and takes me almost 30 mins to put him down and always contact naps only. Is this normal? He used nap easily prior to the last few weeks.

I found this to until I started using the app ‘huckleberry’ which helps with wake windows and when you should be putting baby down for a nap! X

Mine started being difficult with naps about 2 1/2 months and I was told by my sister in law that she swore by the app huckleberry x

It is Normal! Theres an old saying “nine months in, nine months on, nine months near” ! Unfortunately not the most helpful to hear, but quite accurate in my experience so far!

He show signs that he’s tired but do I keep him awake for the appropriate wake time ? I find that he gets very cranky if I wait too long

the wake windows are a helpful guideline but just that, a guideline. If your baby is showing signs of tiredness sooner then put them down when they are tired. I found wake windows helpful only in that it helped me know to watch out for tired signs.
The 4 month regression doesn't always hit but it can result in a lot of contact naps, short naps, and night wakings. Keep at it. You're doing nothing wrong. Their sleep will even out and the most important thing is a calm, centered parent to comfort them because they need your closeness to regulate their bodies in this difficult phase. babies can't regulate themselves so they will take cues from you when you are calm.
They are also becoming more aware of the world every day and sometimes they would just rather not sleep. If the nap doesn't work this time, don't stress and try again in 20 mins. Keep trying naps in their sleep space but don't stress if it doesn't always work. Every try gets them a little more used to the routine. You got this!

second all of this! My son ended up mainly falling asleep being held in the kitchen while the dishwasher was running from 4-7ish months old ! Environmental triggers can be super helpful! Like for us it was the dishwasher being on, for others it can be certain songs or types of music or being in a specific room or space (and so much more)!
