Consistently tells me my baby has the expressions, personality and looks of my partner (her son)...
I honestly feel like the womb that carried her grandchild.
It took us years and IVF to conceive and she is likely to be our only child, so maybe that's why I'm extra sensitive about it. But to constantly hear how completely unlike me she is, in apparently every way. Is hard.
I now don't really reply as I find it so annoying, so she's started sending me photos of my partner as a baby to prove it... I don't get why she's so obsessed with it or why it matters so much. But it's driving me insane.
I don't know if she's oblivious or just insensitive and doesn't care.

I think she’s probably oblivious as you say, but that doesn’t make your feelings any less valid.
Is it something you could have a chat with her about? If shes a kind and reasonable person I’m sure she could understand.
As the mum of a baby who is the absolute spit of her dad I’ve tried to see myself in her in other ways.. personality and mannerisms etc. it helps me a little!

Is there any reason why you’d not want your child to look like their father?
My son is also a baby that was extremely wanted but was told I’d never conceive and we constantly get the “he looks like…” comments from everyone (big circle of friends and family) but I’d never be annoyed by such comments?
If it bothers you massively I’d just suggest the next time it’s brought up for you to politely say something along the lines of “thankyou for your observations of our child however id no longer like to discuss the subject” x

I think mother in laws tend to just be obsessed about grand babies looking like their sons 😂
My MIL swore blind my son was blonde when he was born with practically black hair because her son/ babies dad was blonde as a baby 🤣
I don’t think they mean to be offensive they’re just nostalgic. I learnt to see the funny side x

Girl every bitchy, harsh, comparing or annoying comments comes in one ear and it comes out the other! They don't mean anything by it, but they still say it and probably meant it too. So, just don't listen or like what Yasmin said, look at the funny side of it. Or if you want to be petty, give her a side comment like :-
- you sure?!
- haha no, I don't think so
- Nah, that's more like me and my family
- Maybe your glasses need a wipe
- hmm let's get someone else's option on that
The look on my MIL's face when I first started saying these! 😂 Enjoy your baby girl and don't listen to haters! Chances are your child is going to be a mini version of you 🥰
it's not that I don't like that she looks like him, I love that she has his eyes! I love seeing him in her. I think it's more that apparently she has his expressions, personality and looks. Like there's nothing of me in there.
😂😂😂 that's so funny. I think you are right. I think because we already don't have a great relationship and she's not always been the nicest, it gets on my nerves more.
thank you 💕💕💕 you're so right. I've only replied the once and she doubled down 😂 so I don't want to get into it but I'm gonna try and internal eye roll and move on
ah thank you, I know I'm quite sensitive about it, I think because it's "everything" and nothing of me. Yee you are probably right she has other grandchildren, but I think she sometimes feels quite possessive. She says my baby is "hers".
I think she'd take it quite personally, we don't get on so well and she's not always the nicest. she's said quite mean things before so I don't want to rock the boat too much 🤷🏼♀️
Yeah she definitely has some of those, I think. Although MIL likes to say she has his personality and expressions too. I know it shouldn't matter 🥴

*eye roll* such annoying behaviour! Sometimes when my MiL says something I disagree with I find it weirdly therapeutic to correct the info when it’s just me and baby, so I will go and change our little one and whisper to her “granny says X but that’s not true, you are XYZ…” and we have a little laugh about it 😂😂 May sound crazy but I see us as a little team in that moment and it helps 🤣 of course I’ll need to reign this in when my little one starts talking 😂
😂😂 love this. Especially if it's not true! I've done it before where someone told me LO not to cry. And I whispered "you can cry if you're sad, that's okay" 💕
