I'm a first time mum and not sure how I feel. I had to unfortunately go to a&e the other night so me and my other half left our 5 day newborn with my mother. She's always been wonderful with babies. She was keeping my other half updated with how our newborn has been. She message me and told me very causally that they had been doing skin to skin together. Now I'm not sure if it's my protective side coming out or just how casually she said it but I felt a bit uncomfortable with my mum doing skin to skin with my newborn without even asking. Do you guys let other people do skin to skin with your newborn ???

I've never had anyone else apart from me or his daddy doing skin to skin with our boy. I probably would be weirded out by it but then would also think that it's probably a great way to calm the baby if we're not around and they're distressed. I would want her to ask me first though if that's ok with me. But then, maybe she didn't want to bother you, given that you were in hospital. I'm sure she only meant it in a good way, as in what's best for the baby but maybe tell her next time she could ask.

Defo rather have my mother doing it and not my mother in law 😅
