Does anyone else feel ashamed after leaving an in-person conversation postpartum? I always feel like a bumbling idiot in conversations, though my husband tells me I’m being too hard on myself or that I’m imagining it. I’m still on maternity leave, and I do interact with people outside my home, but I’m otherwise largely isolated. I’m having a hard time keeping up with conversations and will stumble on a word or will say a word incorrectly. Just last weekend I miscounted cash I had drawn and couldn’t wrap my head around the amount. Is this normal or am I just completely losing it?

It’s normal my doctor said after postpartum your hormones change so you will have trouble concentrating and memory. So it’s normal to have trouble speaking. I also forget words and what I have to do. I stutter in conversations too or forget certain words

It’s also hard socializing as a new mom because you’re tired and sleep deprived with the baby. Don’t beat yourself about it. Also I don’t go outside or meet anyone or friends. I just don’t want to risk sickness on my child because she was sick her first week and I don’t want to see her struggle like that again

Thank you! I know everyone is at their own stage, but it’s still reassuring!

Take your time. You’re doing great and you’re a wonderful mother.

I have the same thing... I didn't have the "pregnancy brain", but now my "postpartum brain" is real 🫠 I always forget what stories I told to my friends and keep telling them the same things several times. I get distracted very easily and forget what I was doing ten seconds ago. My thoughts fly out of my head, so my sentences often start with "oh, I wanted to say something..."
To be honest, it scares me. It feels like I'm getting really old 😂

me too. I say to my sister “ Buy___” and then I forget what I was going to tell her to buy 2 secs ago.

my son was sick his first week too (jaundice). It was the hardest thing I’ve gone through even after I thought I’ve seen it all! My in-laws blamed me for his jaundice, called me abusive, said he would have brain damage… I kicked everyone out of the house and barred guests for a whole month! That first step outside for a stroll was so scary.

I didn’t have pregnancy brain either! But after birth I found all these grey hairs and wasn’t all mentally there. I thought I was mentally deteriorating. And then I went online and read that women start aging more rapidly after birth 😂Just do yourself a favor and don’t Google anything when you’re feeling down lol

hey it’s not your fault your baby had jaundice. Many babies have jaundice just it varies in levels. My baby had jaundice too and still has it but the levels are lower now. I’m glad you set boundaries and kicked them out. Those people are not supportive and shouldn’t be in your life. My sister also had jaundice as a baby but she graduated from Colombia university and is very smart. So jaundice doesn’t cause brain damage and it’s treatable

Definitely it’s hard when your baby has jaundice. My baby refused to eat for hours. I had to syringe feed her and she also refused my breast for days and wouldn’t latch. Luckily she gained weight recently and is latching.

My baby boy had jaundice too in a mild form. And we also had feeding problems. He refused to latch. And he was the 1st percentile in weight. But he finally figured out how to breastfeed only when he was 5 months. Now he is 67 percentile in weight! Yahoo! It's been a journey! 😅

That’s really tough 😩 figuring out how to latch is a learning process for both mom and baby. When my son came back from NICU, he had to relearn how to latch and refused my breast, too. I couldn’t compete with those pacifiers and bottles they were giving him in the hospital. I stayed by his side and pumped while he recovered, but that following month was HARD work trying to relearn the latch. We did get it eventually, but there were definitely times when I cheated and resorted to feeding him my pumped milk.

Omg Nathalie, your baby is so young! Congrats on delivering her, and getting her back to latch. The first few weeks are so precious.

You’re not alone - also this post makes me feel seen, so thank you for that. Just gobs yourself some grace - that’s what I’m practicing and it’s relieving.

Make sure you’re still taking vitamins and eating healthy!
