Hi everyone. My baby is 7 and a half months old and I’m returning back to work in September so I’m planning on stopping breast feeding over the next few weeks. He has taken a bottle in the past but has been solely breast fed for a few months now.
Hoping he will still take one as well as he did before. Anyone who’s been through this before, how have you gone about it and across how many days / weeks? I want to know approx how long it took and also how you went about being engorged ? Did you express to relieve any pain or did you just let them do their own thing 😂 any advice is appreciated. Thanks x

Hi mama, my LO is 8.5 months and I’ve recently weaned in the last month. I was breastfeeding 5 times a day (7:30am, 10:30am, 2pm, 4:45pm and 7pm) plus 1-2 overnight feeds. I started by dropping the 10:30am feed first and did this for 3 days, then I dropped the 4:45pm feed for another 3 days and then the 2pm feed for another 3 days. Initially while dropping these feeds I found by the bedtime feed I was super full, but I just hand expressed a little before feeding. After a couple of weeks, my body got used to it and I was no longer feeling full, despite going 12 hours without feeding. By doing it this way, I should’ve completely weaned after about 2 weeks. However, I decided to keep feeding the 7:30am and 7pm feeds a little longer than expected, as I wanted to maintain breastfeeding overnight out of convenience. However, then my baby decided to sleep through the night a few nights in a row and my body decided that it mustn’t need to make milk anymore! Good luck x

Switch 1 BF to formula bottle feed each week to allow baby and your breasts & body to adjust 🫶

I did it over the span of 2 months, just slowly replaced feeds with bottle, then when I was completely done after a few weeks of just 1 feed a day I took Sudafed which is supposed to dry up your supply, and I pumped/hand expressed only if I was engorged & just enough to relieve the pressure then stopped. People say not to express at all but you’re just asking for mastitis if you leave it painful! It took a couple of weeks for it to dry up completely x
