Colostrum Harvesting

After trying with my first pregnancy (and not getting anything) I’ve done my first collection this morning 🥹 I’m 38 weeks, and wasn’t going to bother as I didn’t manage it last time. But I’m beginning to try different holistic methods to start this little one’s eviction.

It’s not much, but I will add to it over time. 💛 (can be stored in the fridge at 4° and added to for the next 48 hours). I won’t be taking this into the hospital, it’ll be kept in our freezer at home.

Something our midwife said, which I thought may be useful information for someone: Colostrum is like a bar of chocolate to us. For babies it can act as a little pick me up when they’re unsettled. She also gave some examples of when we could give it:
- when they’ve had their first jabs and are feeling a bit sore and rotten.
- when you just need 5 minutes to finish your breakfast before giving them a full feed.
- when they get ill - this one is the biggest one for me. My first daughter was born during covid so didn’t really get her first cold until she was over 1 year. Whereas this time will be different. Especially as my eldest starts school in September and will kindly be bringing all the new germs home 🙃

I hope this helps someone. Our bodies are amazing!

I was curious whether you can add to the syringe the more supply you get, so thank you for that! How would you go about giving the colostrum to the baby after it’s been frozen? Do you defrost it and have to heat it up? I have no idea 😅

I breastfed my daughter, and pumped occasionally. I would assume colostrum is similar to breast milk in the sense it can be defrosted either slowly in the fridge, on the side in the kitchen or in some warm water (making sure the cap remains on the syringe so the water doesn’t mix with the colostrum). Then I think it can just be given at room temperature or slightly warmed - I guess as it’s such a small amount maybe it could be warmed just by holding the syringe in your hand for a little bit to warm it through x

When do things get easier?

As we entered the 9-12 month stage, my son started crawling and pulling himself up. He also became more clingy and does not play alone, still doesnt sleep through the night, and this week has been sick (so EVERYTHING amplified). I am tired and overwhelmed. Please lie and tell me things get better. 🥺

He use to sleep through the night now he is waking up every single night in the early morning, I've had to transition him to a toodler bed as he kept climbing out his cot. Just need some advice on what I can do to help him get back in to a sleep pattern?

4 month bed time

What time do you put your babies to bed?
What time do you start your 'routine?'
My LO currently goes to bed around 10.30pm, and I know i need to start bringing it forward. Everytime ive tried, it takes longer for my LO to settle.
We are exclusively breastfeeding. Any advice Mamas?

6 month old autistism

My 6 month old makes no eye contact with me and doesn’t respond when I call him. Can this just be a phase or personality trait as apposed to autism

Colostrum storing?

Has anyone successfully extracted colostrum before the baby’s born? Apparently it gets produced from 16w pregnant and you can start storing it in the freezer but I’m 34w looking at my nipples and the syringes on amazon wondering how it works?? Like what did you use and did it hurt? 🥲

Baby with chronic congestion

Hi everyone! My 1 year has been a congested baby since birth almost. She breathes through her mouth so often that it wakes her up multiple times at night and she cries and screams and then struggles to go back to sleep. She wakes up every 1-3 hours and sometimes can’t go back to sleep for 2-3 hours!!! Piriton is the only thing that seems to help her sleep mostly through the night but I can’t keep giving her that!!
Does anyone have tips as to have I can do or give her? Has anyone experienced? I have no idea when I’ll get an ENT appointment and I have no idea what he can give a 13 mo :( we are desperate for sleep so any tips are welcome!! We have tried steam inhalation, saline drops, vapour rubs and everything off the counter basically!
