I have a 3 week old and she mainly sleeps when on me. She has colic and reflux, I feel so guilty not being able to breastfeed cause she didn’t latch and my mental health was declining. She’s fully on formula. I carry mum guilt all the time. I second guess myself. I rarely get any sleep. Just wanting some reassurance that it’ll get better?

Hey! I 100% feel you. I breastfed for 8 weeks and in that time my LO wasnf putting on weight and had reflux so always sick. I was told to 'top up' with formula as my supply was low (which made me feel so inferior). I tried pumping, breastfeeding and formula until I decided enough was enough- if was mentally and physically destroying me. My LO is almost 6 months and she still has reflux but less sicky with it and now just wants to roll around on the floor. The first few weeks are hard but don't be hard on yourself, your the best mum for your LO and you can do this 💪. It's just the hormones and sleep deprivation that's getting to you but it's only temporary.

thank you. I can’t believe how hard the newborn phase is. I totally understand why but you always think that it’ll be different for you when you have the baby but it so hard and so mentally and physically exhausting.
I’m trying to reach out to services and professionals to get help for my mental health but I feel like I just want an extra person to come and take over for a bit either that or not needing sleep and food but that’s impossible.

My daughter is 7 weeks and I only really feel now that she’s settling. She didn’t latch and got really distressed trying to breastfeed. We’ve been to the doctors with her so many times in the past 3 weeks due to her being constipated and colic. She was screaming every evening. I was also miserable during this time as I felt so helpless. Now, she’s smiling, making cute noises, she’s so inquisitive. It is hard but she is so worth it. Accept any help you get offered, you’ve got this x

Hi,
It will get better.
Remember fed baby is a happy baby. It doesn’t matter how u feed her.
I went from breast to formula as that choice was best for me and my little one. Infacol helped my boy sleep better as he was impossible to burp and was suffering from it.
3 weeks still wanting to be on u while sleeping is completely normal as she still think she is a part of you. Well that’s what I think, my boy 14 weeks and we still contact nap in day time x
It will get easier and harder as it do with kids, and if one thing end the next thing comes, but it’s all worth it. Just remember give yourself and her a chance, you have only started this journey now x you got this mama ☺️

thank you. My LO was the same when I tried to get her to latch. I really hope she gets better and there are cute movements like you said that my LO has started to show me which keeps me going.
thank you. I really need to be kinder to myself. Like you said as long as she’s fed, doesn’t matter how. I have been using infacol which has helped but her reflux is just so bad. I sometimes wish she was older so it’d get better but at the same time I don’t want to miss this moment as she won’t be this small forever.

it will, i promise, youre in the trenches at the moment but slowly it will ease and suddenly youll realise you somehow managed to get through it
i breastfed for about 3 weeks, it wasnt for us, we dealt with colic and chronic constipation, contact napped until 4 months and he didnt sleep through the night until 18 months
and even though i remember how hard those colic days were, i look back on pictures of him and all i see is a beautiful little baby
try to be kind to yourself where you can, even if its just a quick 15 min shower in peace, it all makes a difference
i dont know how we do it, but somehow we do get through. just take each day at a time x

thank you. It’s really reassuring to know I’m not alone through this and there’s light at the end of this phase.
It’s just hard to believe that it’ll get better when you’ve got lack of sleep and a huge responsibility on your shoulders, I hope it gets better.

It absolutely 1000% does get better. Give yourself some grace and allow grieving of the “before”. It doesn’t mean you don’t love your little one! I hated the newborn stage, my little one is now 6 months and it’s like night and day how I feel about it all xx

it helps to hold baby straight up for 20 minutes after a feed, it helped for us and it didn’t bring no milk back up.
Oh yeah, as agreed with others. You are definitely not alone in here 😂
You will find what works best for both of you ☺️

thank you, yea the first week and half I was mourning what my life was like before baby and sometimes I still have those fleeting thoughts and brake downs here and there (mainly due to lack of sleep). I hope I can see it that way soon like you 💕
yea I’ve been told to keep her up right for 15-20 mins and albeit maybe I’ve not been doing it longer than I should be and that’s why she’s bringing it back up 🤷🏻♀️ ill set myself a timer to make sure

My baby has reflux and was born with a tongue tie and lip tie and we only made it to a week of breastfeeding before I cracked and went onto formula because my mental health was awful and I wasn’t enjoying my baby because of all the stress around feeding. I cried for months because I felt so guilty!!! And I struggled in the newborn phase SO much. I was so excited to have a baby and then the reality when he was born felt very different. Just wanted to post to say we are 7 months in and my god it gets so much better. The newborn phase has been my least favourite. I also now couldn’t care less about the fact he’s on formula as he’s happy and thriving! The things that matter so much now really won’t in a few months when the fog lifts. You’re doing great 💓

Oh lovely you’re doing great! I couldn’t breastfeed and my little one is almost three and thriving! Newborn is hard! Contact napping is so so normal at that age- she’s only tiny and you’re her safety :) in regards to reflux- make sure she’s not taking in too much air when she’s taking the bottle! When making formula try stirring with a sterile spoon rather than shaking- less air bubbles that way :) x

thank you. Yea I felt so guilty not being able to breastfeed, more because so much pressure from everywhere family and social media.
I felt weight lifted off my shoulders when I decided to not pump or breastfeed, this helped ease my anxiety and I could focus on my bond with baby.
I can’t wait till she’s much older and I can look back at this time and laugh about it.
thank you. I’ll do that, yea even when stirring the bottle and not shaking still creates air bubbles. So I’ll definitely try using a sterilised spoon 👍🏼

Sending a big hug! Your doing amazing - don't be hard on yourself.....my little girl is 19 months and I look back now and wish I hadn't worried so much. Everything is so short lived. You will sleep again! 🥰 xx
