My baby is 2 months old now and recently I have started napping her in her cot in her own room throughout the day and she’s gone from napping for 20 mins at a time to hours at time!! I’m keen to get her in her own room at night asap as she’s a noisy little sleeper😂 when is it acceptable for me to do this? I know midwife’s advise 6 months but I don’t feel waiting that long is necessary for us. Out house is a tiny 2 bed with our bedrooms right next door to each other. Advise please l

I read in cribsheet by Emily Ostler that the risk of SIDS goes down massively once they can roll from front to back and vice versa so my plan is to move her once she can do that. Everyone's going to have a different view on risks vs benefits. Babies who sleep for longer stretches are actually a higher risk of SIDS so for me I wouldn't be making a decision based on that. X

How did you manage to get to day naps like that?

honestly until this week she’s been a nightmare for fighting sleep and was only napping for like 20 mins at a time! So I just tried putting her down upstairs in her own quiet room with the white noise machine on and blinds closed. As before she was napping downstairs and on me most of the time! And it’s honestly just worked for her x

you gave me hope, as I have the same - maybe 15 min if not on me or on the walk.

yes walking in the pram was the only other way to get her to sleep longer than 20 minutes and because the weather has been rubbish this week I had to try sometimes else!

With my first I had her in her own room at 4 months. She had a monitor on and it was literally on the other side of the landing with both bedroom doors open. We both got better sleep once we did it and I’ll probably do the same with my 10 week old x

It is due to SIDS risks that it is advised all sleep should be in the same room as you until at least 6 months. It's down to you if you wish to do something different to suit you, but it's important to be informed of the risks. https://www.lullabytrust.org.uk/safer-sleep-advice/

Same here for the day naps!
I have a 22month old, so no chance of baby napping downstairs..soon as it gets to the end of a wake window..I take him home upstairs in a dark room, white noise and of course a monitor on.
But same, he now has 1-2 hour nap in the morning and PM nap is 3hours at least.
The difference to my first..I was so scared to put her in a different room..but this time round definitely been easier without all the worries.
My first was 6months. But I would do earlier, as I remember I couldn't sleep with her, being so noisy
