I’m 10 day PP and breastfeeding is so freaking painful. Which in turn makes pumping painful my nipples feel like they’re constantly on fire. My mental health is in the drain feeling like I’m not providing enough. Idk what to do every time he latches on I want to scream from pain

Have you tried nipple shields? ❤️

I have nipple pads is that the same?

nipple shield are different. i’ve also heard great things about silverettes, they help with healing. do you have a nipple cream?

Yup I use nipple cream but everytime he latches it hurts so bad I’ve cried so much this past week

I really struggled with this and felt like none of the midwives or breastfeeding specialists really understood how much pain I was in. It turned out he had a tongue tie which they hadn’t initially spotted, so I would definitely get your baby checked for that.

No, nipple shields are a soft thin silicone cover that you place over your nipple so that instead of the baby sucking on your flesh, they can suck on that.
It helps give your nipples some time to heal & also with latching.
They helped me out a ton.

Is baby getting a deep latch? A shallow latch can course nipple pain

How long does the pain last? Is it just few sucks? Or is it the whole feeding session?
If it’s few sucks that’s unfortunately normal -it will start getting less and less - mine stopped hurting around 5months…
If it’s the whole feed I’d suggest working on the latch
As others recommended nipple shields can also be a great help! But just like pump there’s different sizes so make sure to check your size ☺️

It sounds like baby doesn’t have a good latch. Wrong latch can cause serious trauma and damage to your nipples. I would look into nipple shields as mentioned above and silverettes for the healing. Did you look into his latch? Is it deep enough? Did you check for any tongue tie or lip tie (both top and bottom)? It’s not supposed to hurt this way. It can be sore the first few days but what you’re describing isn’t normal. Have you tried seeing a lactation consultant?

Definitely get nipple shields! They’ve helped me so much when I first started breastfeeding! & it’s normal that they hurt so much dear 😫😫😭 I know the pain! I use to dread when my daughter to wake up to feed but now we’re 10 months in & it doesn’t hurt anymore! Just keep on getting there girly and don’t give up 💕 such a beautiful experience but yess definitely get nipple shields it was the only thing that really helped me!

Instead of nipple cream you can also use your own breast milk for healing. You can put some into the silver cups and leave it on that way.
This happened me too and for a months or so I had to lightly hold my breast a certain way so as baby had a deeper latch.
Can you see a lactation consultant to see if they can help with latch?
Has baby been checked for tongue ties?
Also new positions? I found side lying was the best, but at first I wasn’t finding it comfortable until a home nurse showed me a more comfortable way. I fed like this for months.
Is it both sides? Or is It just one. It could be the shape of one nipple or ‘flat nipples’ as they call them! But I found using a hand pump right before I helped her latch made my nipple more errect for her to latch on to and this helped me so so much. Just one pump made a difference
