Hey ladies so I'm getting induced a week Friday. I'll be 37 weeks with my 3rd. I've started to try and express milk but I don't seem to be getting much at all. I wasn't able to breast feed my others and really wanna with this one but now I'm worried I won't be able to and it's proper getting me down đ

It'll be colostrum until after baby is here and tbh it varies from 1 lady to another xx

I'm not even getting much of that our either xx

Keep giving it a go, youâll find ways that work for you fingers crossed

My milk didnât come in properly until 4 days after my baby so your supply maybe just hasnât arrived yet, try not to worry and keep going ! Youâre doing amazing ! Xx

I didnât get anything before my last baby was born and breastfed successfully for 14 months. Donât let this discourage you, your milk will come in, all bodies are different and itâs very hormone related.

Not to worry! Milk doesnât come in until 5 days after giving birth. And if it doesnât, there are injections or pills your doctor can give you to help produce milk. Just ask if you need them later. All the best for your BFing journey x

Don't worry. Colostrum amount doesn't dictate how successful your breastfeeding journey will be. I was able to produce a decent amount of colostrum however couldn't feed my baby fully and always had to supplement.
Good latch, latch often, both boobs.

Also keep going with the colostrum - from my experience I was only collecting 0.3ml at most for about 5 days and was feeling a bit down about it. Suddenly last night I was able to get 1.6ml in a much shorter time also. Give your body time - youâve got this đ x

Thank you guys helped so much had a break down on partner last night cos of it bur gunna keep trying the brest pump each day xx

I wasn't able to get any colostrum before birth with my first and we had a successful breastfeeding journey âșïž
Of course there are many other factors to it - but not being able to get colostrum right now isn't one of them xx

The best way to express colostrum is by hand rather than pump, so perhaps give that a go if you havenât already. Your midwife should have given you a leaflet or some advice to guide you on this. There may be a video online if not.
As others have said, it will be super small amounts as itâs super concentrated essentially. Often it starts with a small drop or two in a syringe and then will eventually build up to maybe filling a syringe.
Unfortunately you need to be nice and relaxed for best results, so if youâre getting stressed about lack of results itâs going to become a viscous cycle.
Also as others have said, not being able to harvest colostrum doesnât mean you wonât be able to feed when baby comes. Many breastfeeding mums donât bother to harvest colostrum beforehand.
Easier said than done but try and give yourself a bit of a break x

I was thinking this today actually, about trying to express before I'm induced next week also, but never tried it, never tried breast feeding with my first either (although I barely had a tit lol) this pregnancy I have grown a bit in the chest area so that's why I feel more confident to try, these comments are really helpful because I'd probably panic or feel down if I didn't produce much either but it just goes to show you that everyone is different and it might just be the timing for you hun, I hope you manage, maybe do some stimulation massages before trying again? Maybe your already doing that but it'll go alright in the end I'm sure đ positive vibes for you x
