Fit to fly - UK TUI

I’ll be 28 weeks on the flight back. My midwife said she can’t do the fit to fly and my doctors have said ‘how would they know if I’m fit to fly if I haven’t had an appointment for ages’ so now I’m at a loss? I fly next week? Can I use a private place? If so what one please :)

Why won’t your midwife complete it? Is there a medical reason you are considered at risk? What does your travel insurance cover? Also check whether it is up to 28 weeks or after 28 weeks - subtle difference. Will you have only just tipped into 28th week?

Can’t you book a phone consultation with your GP just before? Why are they being so difficult 🙃

There are probably private services that would do this - but they would still probably need something from your team to confirm your due date and that there are no current complications. I think even if you get it from NHS team they can ask you to pay for it anyway as it’s not a standard service.

I have no idea, she said she can’t do them but the GP can but obviously not🥲

I’m at risk for ‘preeclampsia’ because my mum had it with 1 of 7 children.

I’ll be 28 weeks and 3 days when we fly back, but I rang the gp a few weeks ago and they said to ring back closer to the date and they’ve just completely fobbed me off😬

Avatar

that’s what they told me a few weeks ago🥲But now they can’t do it

Avatar

Ah okay, if they don’t know then surely they wouldn’t think to look? Thankyou! Xx

the NHS midwives won’t offer it as they then become liable if there is an issue whilst you’re abroad or on the flight. They cannot afford to be sued.

if you google fit to fly certificates, many private doctors will come up. You have to send them copies/upload copies of your pregnancy notes and fill out details regarding your health history and pay a fee. You should then get it within 24 hours via email.

I’m flying in October at 29 weeks so have researched this myself as the midwife explained why they won’t provide them.

Many will say it’s not needed but it will be dependent on the airline staff on the day you fly and the airport you fly back from. You really don’t want to risk being unable to go on your flight or being restricted in returning

Thankyou very much! Yes I’m just worried I’ll be stopped, knowing my luck I will be x

I flew with Ryanair at about 26 weeks and when they noticed my bump they just asked how many weeks I was - as I was under 28 weeks I didn't need the fit to fly letter anyway. If you can't get a fit to fly letter, then you could just say you are less weeks than you are maybe if they do ask??x

Avatar

that was my concern tbh. I always seem to be the one that gets stopped for some reason 🤦🏻‍♀️ I just don’t think it’s worth the risk over spending less than £50 on a certificate.

I wouldn’t lie about your gestation either in case there is an emergency onboard. It’s always best to just be safe than sorry

Avatar

exactly!! Depending when your flying you could probably hide your bump if need be, it would be different if you were further on but if you flew 24 hours before they wouldn't care 🤷🏻‍♀️

You can pay privately, I was quoted about £120 for it though 😬
I asked my midwife as I would’ve been 27 weeks and flying back at 28 weeks which was jet2s cut off and she said “you have a low risk pregnancy so I can’t tell you not to fly but I won’t sign a fit to fly form”. She told me just to make sure I was hydrated and to walk around every now and then to keep circulation up.
I took all my notes and never mentioned I was pregnant and was never questioned by the airline. It was maybe a risk but it was all on me! I wore loose clothing so I didn’t look pregnant. Maybe not the smartest decision but it worked and I was fine!

£40 UK only. Fit to fly certificate from GMC registered UK doctor

Avatar

When I was going to travel my midwife said the same thing, that she can’t issue one

Avatar

Thankyou everyone, I’ve gone private saved the hassle🥲x

Avatar

I’ve never done a fit to fly 🤔

Avatar

Hope you have a wonderfully relaxing babymoon x

Avatar

In the UK u need a form saying ur fit to fly!? I didn’t know that 😮

Avatar

I’ve just flown with Ryanair at 29 weeks and nobody even asked me for proof of my fit to fly. I just wore a baggy tshirt and nobody batted an eye! X

Avatar

it’s airline dependent but usually if you’re flying when you’re past 28 weeks then require a fit to fly certificate. Not every airline worker will ask to see it, and some see it as pointless, however if you don’t have one when asked (or cannot prove that you’re less than 28 weeks pregnant), they can refuse your travel

Avatar

My midwife just gave me a fit to fly at a routine midwife appointment? So maybe double check with her. I was never asked for mine though

Avatar

Its just not something they do anymore thats whay my midwife told me. Check your airlines rules - I suspect its fine for you to fly. And get insurance.

I got fit to fly from my midwife, I live in Scotland. We had a fiasco in London airport when flying to Vegas and nearly missed our flight. We had to basically run for the plane. I have no idea how I managed it. My partner said I was the colour of beetroot lol and I was so out of breath. The airline staff never asked to see anything but they did look after me, bless them. Also the passengers were good especially as we held the plane up 🙈 a funny story that I can share with my LO when he's old enough ☺️

Finding out gender

Has anyone found out the gender at a private scan at 14 weeks? And has this been accurate?

I found out at 17 with my first but I know a scan place that offers from 14/15 weeks and I’m impatient 😂🥲

Induction?

Anyone been induced before? Was it more painful? Better than thought? Worse than thought? Worth it? Thoughts?

Induction or c section?

As a last resort, would you rather be induced or have a planned c section?

Really not liking the thought of being induced from people’s experiences I’ve read!
