Within the past week or so, the “ terrible 2’s” has started with our son. I mean, ear piercing, bloody murder screaming when he doesn’t get something, throwing food and toys when he’s frustrated, shaking his head no to EVERYTHING. He goes to daycare full time, and she said he pushed on of the other boys today. What might be the best approach to handling this behavior, especially when most of it happens when we’re not around to correct it ourselves. I feel like I have to rely on his daycare teacher to do most of the corrections. Mom guilt starting to rear its ugly head that we have to work and can’t be around him 24/7

I have not advise just support. My four year old is still like this. The guilt is so bad

Honestly, toddler behaviour is usually linked to really basic needs.
Fatigue, thirst, hunger. Could be tired and missing you guys, being in care 5 days and acting out at home where they feel safe.
It was the same with me, I had to work, my toddler was in care, hitting a lot. Angry when at home.
Set boundaries, consistent and firm, but not mean. When you do have time together, give them ur full attention, do the routine things with them etc so they’re not just watching tv or playing alone (hard I know when you’ve been working all day and need to get dinner/housework done)
In relation to boundaries - validate but don’t allow/support the behaviour. And reinforce the positives. I mean these sorts of things -
(Child throws toy at me) are you ok? You seem angry. Please don’t throw toys, they will have to be packed away so they don’t break if you throw them again.
(Child screams and throws toy again)
Ok I’m packing the toys away so they don’t get broken (calmly pack them away)

Child will get upset - and I will then say:
- I can see you’re really upset. When you’re ready I’m here and can give you a cuddle.
So basically, let them be angry/sad/etc, but don’t give in or react to the negative behaviour. Aim for natural consequences.
I would also talk to the daycare to make sure she’s getting enough sleep, water, etc. when my boy is even slightly hungry (low blood sugar) he is honestly psycho. Once he’s eaten he’s a different child!

Sorry just realised it’s your son not daughter and I said she.
My boy’s behaviour was also way worse at daycare! I think they were too harsh on him and he didn’t like the educators. He’s way better at a different centre now too
thank you for all of that! I appreciate any advice. On the whole, he’s a really happy kid. His tantrums are extremely quick and I can usually redirect him somewhat easily. But I will definitely try out some of your suggestions!

I just got into the 3s a few weeks ago and I feel like it all just got 10000x worse 🥲🥲
Terrible twos had nothing on my daughters “threenager stage “ she’s so darn mean now and the tantrums are even worse !

This sounds so similar to my boy. Good luck x
oh no!🫠🫠
