I have a 16 week old baby and currently going through the sleep regression. The nights now are very up and down with frequent wakings after 2am and only going down for about 45 minutes.
I've tried leaving him to see what he does, rocking the Sleep next to me and saying sssshhh but nothing seems to work and I have to pick him up again to rock him back to sleep. He's never taken to a dummy, he just doesn't understand or suck it.
I've seen things online that says that self soothing should be encouraged but has anyone got any experience of dealing with this without a dummy?

With my little one, we get her sleepy in our arms, but whilst she's still awake but almost asleep we pop her into her crib, I tend to stay with her and sometimes give a few pats to help her sooth. As time goes, she's now soothing herself without any pats and we can do it whilst she's more awake.

what age was your baby doing this? How long did it take to transition? Also pat where? My baby is on his back so wouldn't be able to access his back?

My daughter never liked a dummy she always sucked her tongue to help sooth herself and she slept through the night from about 12 weeks onwards

No advice, as at 14 weeks we are in basically the same position. We are up 40-60 mins from about 3am. My only advice, even though you are shattered, try not to rush the rocking and getting back into bed. I have tried putting my LO onto their side first, and then after a few minutes rolling them onto their back. It probably works 50% of the time.

Thanks , I only pick him up when he starts crying but before that I try rocking the sleep next to me but that only tends to work at the start of the night and progressively escalates. He slams his legs on the floor by raising them up. It's meant to be self soothing but does bugger all. How long on their side? He's a bit wobbly as he is trying to roll. Do you pay as well?

Yeah I've tried placing a hand on him and shushing but it doesn't work. Only seems to work that when I put him down. How should I practice? Better in the day and build on that? He just tends to cry when he's left on his own and gets frustrated when he's not asleep when he wants to be and notoriously goes hysterical/ overtired a lot
