And now I have a newborn and she has been hitting him. How do you parents especially 2 under 2 deal with this behavior?

remove the toddler. you gotta use a stern voice. not yell, but be assertive. just let them know that isn’t okay and won’t fly

When my daughter smacks me I tell her that hurt, nice hands and show her what nice hands are. Then she’ll usually repeat back to me when I let go what I just showed her. It works for us. She really doesn’t smack a lot at all.

@Alyssa maybe a dumb question but how do you demonstrate nice hands?
My toddler likes to throw things at me and hit me and Im trying to show/tell her how that isnt nice. I tell her she hurts my feelings when she does that but Im not sure how to show her.

but she keeps doing it 😫

we do this but she’ll do it again later on and thinks it’s a game

not dumb at all. If she smacks I’ll take her hand in mine and gently touch my face with her hands or wherever she smacked and say nice hands while I do it. And I say it in a gentle voice.

yeah, that happens. you have to just be consistent and they’ll stop eventually. they’re at the age where they’re pushing boundaries trying to see what they can get away with. they also do it for attention if they feel jealous. it does stop eventually though. my kids are 13m apart and we definitely went through a “don’t smack the baby” phase with her

yes, I did this too! I have a workout ball that I told her she was allowed to hit to redirect her.

I will try this! Thank you
