My toddler has been banging their head on the wall or floor anytime they are told no or a toy is taken from them. I brought it up to their doctor and was told it’s normal.
Their daycare provider and I are concerned though. I don’t know how to help them. Is anyone else going through this?

Sometimes when I tell my daughter she’s bad, she smacks her own head. She never hurts herself, but it makes me feel weird. She’s done things like bang her head also. Nothing as much as to make me remember it more than when she’s been smacking herself, and people have told me it’s normal also…but just so you don’t think you’re alone.
although I don’t have any better advice or anything though…good luck! I’d maybe ask around a little more—any other doctors they might see. Get a second opinion from another professional.

My son used to do this. We were told to ignore it (just make sure he's not going to really hurt himself. My son banged his head on the metal edge of a mini trampoline once and very quickly learned that was a bad idea). When I started to ignore it, he started to do it less, and he doesn't do it anymore. I would give him a few seconds to have his moment, let him process and calm down a bit, and then I would try to comfort him or redirect his attention. Does your toddler talk much yet? I read that it can be associated with their struggle to communicate. My son was a little speech delayed, but now that he can say like 20 words and communicate his desires better, he tends to get frustrated way less often. Obviously he still doesn't like when I take stuff away or say no, but he processes it a lot better now for some reason

My 18 month old son does this as well. Freaks me out but it doesn’t happen often

Omg I just had this happen today!! She tried cracking her head on the hardwood floor I had to put her in the play pen where it was softer and she wouldn’t hurt herself

Yes, it is normal. My son is doing the exact same thing and he’s turning 18 months on the 22nd.

In moments of sweetness, careless her face gently and tell her “soft” and “gentle” and then when a situation arises, tell her “no, soft and gentle” it does not work immediately, u have to repeat over and over. Then after a couple of repeats, I would say, “help me take care of my grl/(her name) be soft and gentle. Just keep it up!
