Strange Encounter with doctor 6 week check up

Can someone please give me some advice on what to do. Yesterday I had my baby’s 6 week check up appointment and the doctor was very strange and inappropriate. My husband couldn’t make the appointment as he was at work in central London so I took my mum with me. Once I got inside the room the doctor asked to check me first which was fine but when pressing on my stomach he went very rough( I am used to being poked and prodded since being pregnant and having a c section and post natal checks but he pressed so hard on my stomach more than anyone else had done). Anyways that was fine when it was time for him to check the baby he asked me “ are you married? Where is the baby’s father ” and I replied yes my husband couldn’t make it as he’s at work and couldn’t get time off. Then he replied “are you not together” and I replied “yes we are together he just couldn’t make the appointment” to which he asked again “are you still with the dad” and I said “yes I just told you “ and he just kind of gave a judgemental “hmmm” which was strange , I know people judge because I am 26 years old but I am often told I look quite young. Anyways he told me to strip the baby down so he could do his check ups. Once the baby was stripped down I could see my little boy was going to pee and I told him oh let me just put the nappy over him to which he just replied “no” and then my baby peed everywhere and the doctor did not even flinch and just carried on. Every time I tried to get close to my baby to stop him crying or give his pacifier or see what the doctor was doing he would stand in frount of me and block me which his back to me , literally I would move to the left and he would go to the left and block me and so on. I did not see him wash his hands or put sanitiser or gloves even after my baby urinated he just carried on. He was pinching my baby’s privates I don’t know if this is a normal practice in a check up because it was never done before in any of my baby’s previous check ups. When I questioned him “oh why is it you do that “ he literally just ignored me. He was a foreign doctor who didn’t seem like he was in the country for long and he still had quite a strong accent so maybe this is why but I found it very strange he’s working for NHS GP so he should be able to answer a question. Anyways when he went to pick my baby up to put him on the weighing scale I seen him grab him by his feet and his head and I stopped him and I said “do you want me to lift him up and put him on the scale” he said no and then lifted him properly onto the scale. My baby started to cry on the scale and his pacifier had fallen out again so as I went to put it back in his mouth the doctor literally slapped my hand away. When I say I was stunned and shocked for words I literally did not know how to react my mum was also the same. I just froze . He then sat down at his computer didn’t say a word and start typing in the results of the check up I had to ask him if he was done with the baby and he said yes. Whilst dressing my baby I wanted to ask the doctor a question about baby acne when proceeding to ask he stopped me mid sentence and said “not now I’ll tell you when you can ask a question” which was just so rude the whole experience made me so uncomfortable. The gp surgery itself has such bad reviews and has a reputation as one of the worst but I never expected such unprofessionalism. When I met my husband at home he was fuming and rang the gp for the doctors name and the registered managers details to lodge a complaint but they were closed. I am going to change my gp today but I just want to know if there’s anything else I can do about reporting this doctor? The more and more I think about it is really making me angry .

Go straight to pals and lodge a complaint and please don’t go ever be seen by him, how awful, that is disgusting! 😔

Put a complaint in IMMEDIATLEY. This is in no way appropriate

That’s horrible! I’m so sorry you had that experience 🥹 definitely file a complaint, he could be doing this to all babies he sees!

It may be different since I’m in the US but my doctor would never act that way! I did all the consoling of baby and putting them where she needed to be. Our doctor also asks permission to see her private areas and talks with me throughout the entire appointment and doesn’t care when I ask questions. They also show us their screen and tell us where she’s sitting at health wise

Lodge a formal complaint - this sounds like a nightmare from start to end I’m sorry you went through this. And no I don’t think the pinching of private parts isn’t normal they’re supposed to check how strong their pulse is by putting 2 fingers either side of their groin and gently pressing this is what they did with my little girl but idk if it’s different for boys? I doubt it though.

I work in a gp surgery - this is not ok at all!! Call and make a complaint with the practise manager. Get the doctors name you saw, as well as the practise managers name and the names of the partners of the doctors (those there full time and own the surgery) let the practise manager know that you’ll be escalating this further & then go to PALS with the information and make a formal complaint with them. Not acceptable at all. I’m sorry you and your little one had such a horrible experience x

As for the touching of private parts - GP’s are meant to feel their balls to ensure both are there, not the penis unless you have any concerns!!

I'd also write a review on Google maps so other parents can see. I always look at reviews like that so would be a massive help

Thanks everyone!

thank you for clarifying touching the balls is a normal practice that puts my mind at ease much more.

I have gotten the doctor and practice managers details and will definitely be lodging a complaint. It was honestly such a horrible experience and it’s weighing on my mind more today that I had time to reflect.

What a creep! Totally inappropriate to you and to baby, not only asking questions which are irrelevant to your check up (about your married life), stopping you from touching your own baby, bullying and being inappropriate with him. Disgusting behaviour and not standard at all. PALS for sure!

Omggg this is unprofessional and inappropriate!!! I would be fuming too, definitely send a complaint, I’m so sorry you and your baby went through this, he sounds like he shouldn’t work in healthcare let alone with babies!
