What’s the most cost effective way to dry clothes?

I am getting tired of having to go to the laundrette twice a week just to keep on top of drying our clothes 🙈 as Black Friday is coming up, thinking of splashing out but not sure which option is best? Will I still have the hang the clothes after they’ve been tumble dried?

I tumble dry bedding and towels and most of my son's clothes or anything of mine that I don't think would shrink. Then I have a heated clothes rail that I hang everything else on including my partners clothes because I can't convince him that the dryer won't shrink everything he owns lol. The heated clothes rail is amazing though, put it on overnight with the cover over it and it's all dry the next day x

if you don't mind me asking, did you get a drysoon or just any brand?

All of our underwear, socks etc get thrown immediately into the dryer and ran until dry. All shirts pants and sweaters get hung on a drying rack for a day or two and then thrown in the dryer for 10 minutes to fluff

Why don’t you just keep tumble drying the clothes until they’re completely dry instead of hanging them up? If you’re worried about the cost, energy is usually less expensive at night. That’s when I do our laundry to save money

Avatar

yeah it's the Drysoon one that I have x

in the UK not all providers offer discounted tariffs at night.

The dehumidifier is good if you tend to have humidity problems. It is not an efficient way to dry clothes.

If you have the space, get a tumble dryer or a washer/dryer and get some drying balls to speed up the time it takes or ensure everything comes out dry.

The heated drying rack seems to work pretty well too.

Heated rail and dehumidifier…. with a sheet over the top of the clothes on the heated rail

Man this sounds wild to me, from the us here and we dry so much in the dryer! I don’t even have a way to hang anything up at the moment but if and when I do cloth diapers again next year, I do hang a line in the back yard and use the suns help to dry the inserts(just basic gerber cloth diapers) and it gets rid of stains so we’ll just letting the sun bleach them! I only do the washing once a week though. When I have a newborn next spring though, I’ll be doing it prolly every other day to keep up with all the soiled baby stuff though!

We have both! You can get some really good driers that are very cost effective

Buying a tumble dryer was the best thing I ever did. I put everything in there and have never had any issues with anything shrinking. Whole load of laundry done and dry within a few hours.

Avatar

Thanks so much ladies! Really appreciate your opinions and help 💛

Which tumble dryer do you have & , would love some recommendations ☺️

Avatar

We don't actually have a tumble dryer , so yeah we use a dehumidifier and our one litterly dries everything over night ! Which is very handy with 2 bubbas 😅

Avatar

which dehumidifier, can you suggest please

Avatar

@Evah we have this one

It's a bit noisy but we put it on at bedtime when sleeping so it doesn't, disturb us we have two as we have / had damp issue so we have one in spare room aka my laundry room 🤣🤣 where I dry out clothes , Although the one we have in our bedroom our baby falls asleep to it, kinda replicates a noise like white noise so that's a win 🤣🤣 x

If you’re running a dehumidifier in the house anyway then it will always be the more cost effective way. I will wash about 3 or 4 loads on one day and tumble dry them all together overnight instead of running the tumble dryer multiple times for multiple loads and that works for me

Avatar

I just hang my laundry up until it’s dry.

Avatar

Heated airer with a cover and also a dehumidifier.

Avatar

Heat pump dryers are super efficient and cheap to run, but a little more pricey to buy. We love ours. Used to use a dehumidifier, but with 2 kids it just is so much washing

Avatar

wow what sort of tumble dryer is that! I use mine at least every other day, sometimes daily, I do put it on twice as I have to use the low heat setting but otherwise it doesn’t dent my electric anywhere near that bad! It’s hard to determine how much it alone uses as obviously other things are on at the same time but since I have gotten it, I’m not having to top up electric any more often than I was before!

Avatar

same! I do our laundry with a tumble dryer at night.

Avatar

apparently it’s different in the UK? Lol so I just decided to stop commenting and mind my American business 😂

Avatar

lol im learning about so many laundry products in this thread… dehumidifier for laundry?!

Avatar

same! I even went to ask this question on Google about the energy being cheaper at night and the results started talking about dehumidifiers lol. I thought these were only used to get rid of mold 😂😂

Avatar

that’s crazy! I always look at the energy efficiency rating before buying any appliance and get the best one I can afford. I would t be able to get through all my loads without it 😭

Avatar

Yer I’m looking at getting an A++ one. Which one do you have ?

Avatar

A++ will most certainly be the most energy efficient there is however it will cost you an arm and a leg just purchasing it! I have a Bush condenser dryer and it’s rating is B but like I said, I haven’t felt a big impact in my bills going up from using it constantly

Avatar

I have a Beko A++ and my partner hasn't moaned about the electric bill going up so I think mines energy efficient 😂😂

Leaky nappy help

What nappies are you using to stop leaks?? We use pampers ultra dry size 5, and for the past few nights he has lashed through and we’ve had to completely change him during the night. Last night he leashed through twice!! He sleeps on his front and stays leaks through at the top of his leg where the tabs connect. Didn’t know whether to size up, he has a bit of a belly on him but he’s smack in middle of weight guidance so shouldn’t need too

Am I wrong?

I’ve been wanting to add more garden beds to my garden. Husband says “hey do you want to go to Home Depot to get that wood for the garden beds.” Cool I’m excited I’ve been wanting to get this done for awhile.

We get there and we’re picking out wood and I make 2 comments about how I don’t like how 2 pieces of wood look that he picked out. And he says if you’re going to be this picky then u can do this yourself.

I literally made 2 comments and mind you I’m the one paying for the wood.

I felt dismissed and like my opinion didn’t matter and if I wanted to have an opinion then I need to do it myself. Like what?

It was rude and not okay. Am I wrong? Am I overreacting?

He thinks it was fine that he said that.

5.30am wakeups 😫😴

My 15 week old has started waking up about 5.30am and is really hard to settle back down - it’s like he thinks it’s time to wake up for the day. He used to go to bed at 9pm and was up at 8am but now he goes to bed between 7.30-8pm as he’s knackered by then but waking up at 5.30am😴. Any advice to get him to sleep a little longer in the morning?! Even an extra hour would be lovely 🤣
