Hi Liza. We were finding the same, so introduced the Tommee Tippee Orthodonic dummies. Our baby liked them at first but now doesn't seem so keen. I think they recommend it once breastfeeding is well established. The dummies have been a saviour in instances like car journeys when she is hungry but I can't feed her. I sit in the back of the car and help her to keep it in (not forcefully!). It helps to settle her until we have reached our destination and then have some milk! We haven't been successful with them at night X
I did introduce the dummy the second week! My little boy is the same and he is almost 3 weeks so far he is still feeding great every 3 hours also we are using the dummy just at night so far in case it needs an extra help falling asleep after feeding… also my partner try to give it to him when he was hungry and he would just refuse the dummy… so far it was okay for us I think you can try and how it goes
I've tried but she gags and spits them out x
We give our little boy a dummy when he’s sucking his hands sometimes or going to the breast for comfort - he barely has it (maybe once a day?) and I can’t say it’s impacted his latch at all. Follow your gut though, you know your baby best!
I gave my boy a dummy from about 2/3 weeks and he’s still breastfeeding great and doesn’t seem to prefer the dummy either! ❤️
My baby is nearly 3 weeks old and she’s BF and had a dummy since a week old she still feeds fine only has the dummy when I know she’s had enough and just wants the comfort xxx
My little girl had a dummy from 1 & half weeks old is breastfed and has it practically majority of the time, soothing, sleeping, general enjoyment & she’s now nearly 6 weeks and is still BF & has no problem with latch. We also bottle feed breast milk as well. We use Mam dummies & Mam bottles & breastfeed. Health visitors and midwife’s advise against it as they want you to be able to establish breastfeeding first & also know your babies hunger ques as a dummy can impact knowing whether your little one is hungry or wanting soothing as I asked why they advised against it before 4 weeks (I was told) and this is the reason they gave me at the hospital and at home visitors they told me if I felt comfortable knowing what my babies hunger ques were and if I felt like we had establish BF they were more than supportive of me introducing a dummy at 2 weeks old. Hope that helps 🫶🏻
I introduced a dummy when my little one was a few days old due to the same reason - we were advised to wait until feeding was established which it was after a few days thankfully - She is now 4 weeks old and still using the dummy - She's not always that bothered with it and still much prefers the boob haha
I haven't given dummy's to my bf baby at all. It's totally normal for them to suckle the breast for comfort. A dummy is made to replace the breast, imo it's not needed. My bottle fed babies did have dummies x
Thank you everyone! After a lot of deliberation I decided to introduce a dummy and guess what, baby girl hates it and spits it out. I tried 3 different types. Good job I worried about it so much 😂
I introduced a dummy a few days ago to try and help my 2 1/2 week old boy settle at night! I am breastfeeding and he is still interested 😊 we are only giving it to him when he’s sleeping but won’t settle xx
