95th Centile 😬

Hello ladies, anyone growing a biggie? I’m 35 weeks & had a growth scan Tuesday & was told he’s on the 95th centile. When I spoke to midwife on the Wednesday she suggested another scan at 37 weeks, and we discussed early induction or elected section.
Anyone else in same position? I’d really appreciate any advice x

I’m in a similar position, but not 100%, as i’m only 33 weeks and booked in for scan next week and at 36 with a consultant appointment booked for immediately after 36 week scan to discuss options. At 30 weeks, baby girl was only at 90th percentile (4lb) - but had been growing at a rate of lb a week for about 3 weeks, and also I have GD which can increase growth. She may have slowed down her growing and we have nothing to worry about?🙈 but if she’s carried on at the same rate she could be around 8lb when we scan next week at 34 weeks! Try not to worry too much - listen to all of your options and take time in deciding what is best for you. There is no rush, and they will not pressure you either way, if they do then ask to speak with someone different. Personally, I will opt for induction if I need to choose, as a single mum, c section will be a lot more difficult for me to manage so would like to avoid if possible. There is no right or wrong just whatever you feel is best for you ❤️

I’m going to opt for induction, but I’m aware that the closer I am to due date the more likely I am to have emergency section which I would also like to avoid as I’m also a single mum x

Same here. Baby has been tracking 95th percentile and consultant is now concerned because they're down to 90th. I'm back at the hospital at 35w and hoping baby is ok, but also really hoping the measurements are wrong.

I am just trying to do as much as possible to prepare my body for labour in hopes that the induction will work for me🤞 I have been practicing my hypnobirthing techniques/breathing so I can keep my body calm, i’ve been doing all the ball exercises and stretches. I’ve also started perineal massage, which isn’t the most pleasant, but supposed to help your body to not tear and get baby out. I’m drinking raspberry leaf tea everyday! Just as much as I can🙈 really we can’t do too much, our bodies are all different and will react differently. Unfortunately, if baby or our body isn’t ready to be induced, it may not work, but we can do what we can to prep, it can’t hurt. I didn’t know that closer to your due date you’re more likely to need a c section! how come? ❤️ I think i’m trying to be open minded, as although it will be tough, we will be able to do it! whether its vaginal birth recovery or c section recovery - our bodies are very strong and it’ll all be worth it when baby is here❤️

I was suppose to see consultant this week but I didn’t. I think I might have had a better idea of what my options are if I’d had.

At 32+4 I was measuring on the 97th centile. The consultant has got me to repeat my gestational diabetes test but otherwise said nothing else would change as I'm already booked in for a planned c section xx

I was always booked in for growth scan at 34 & 38 weeks and never told why. I’m not a high risk pregnancy, my GD test came back normal & I’ve never measured massive at midwife appointments. X

I had a scan at 34 weeks and baby was measuring at 5lbs 10z… my first baby was born at 35 weeks at 5lbs 9oz.. I asked the doctor is he’s big for his gestation and he said no he’s measuring perfect on the growth chart 🫣🫣 x

What's the problem with being on the 95% centile? Like why have they offered induction or c section this early? I have been on 97th centile with my last pregnancy and this one too, my bub was born at 40+6 weekss and was 8.3 pounds which is pretty average. Unless you have other risk factors like GD I don't see why they are pressuring you this early 😏. I thought size was only looked at if baby wasn't growing or if they jumped up centiles suddenly 🧐

My boy is around the 95% he was estimated to be 6lb on my 33+6 scan and due another scan at 36 weeks. We’ve booked in for an elective but that was something I’d asked for prior to discussing birth options x

Baby has been measuring at >99% since 28 weeks. I had a growth scan 5 days ago at 35 weeks and he was measuring almost 8lb. They have discussed induction at 39 weeks however seeing me again at 37 weeks to see how things are and whether this needs to be moved forward.

Everyone is different and you obviously you have to do whatever you feel most comfortable with but my midwife said having a big baby isn't necessarily a reason to need to be induced. Obviously different story if there are also medical reasons but if it's just that the baby is big then no real reason for induction. Our body can't grow a baby that it can't birth. My first son was 9lbs on the dot and I had a natural delivery. I am a bit nervous as they say 2nd babies tend to be bigger but I just keep telling myself that my body is made to do this. We got this Mamas! 🙌🏻

My Dr told me baby was on 90th percentile but new research says no possible issues until 97th, however Dr also said its 10% either way and always a guess...
Try not to worry too much about it, a big baby doesn't mean you have to have an induction. And I heard they are easier to birth!

I had a scan on Friday and I’m above the 35th centile at 35+4 - baby measuring 7lb 6oz - they’ve booked me in for another scan at 39 weeks and consultant appointment 3 days before my due date 🤣 I need to be induce before this at this size already - got an appointment with my midwife next week so will be raising this with her 🫠 baby number 3 - I do not need to be pushing out a baby who’s ready to walk 🤣🤣

Thanks ladies! I’m not worried in the slightest, it’s just nice to know what everyone else’s situation is.
It’s been 10+ years since my last pregnancy & never had this before (even though my previous pregnancy I was told was going to be a big one, and I was left to go into labour naturally)

Avatar

I have GD. Baby measuring 87th centile. My first was 73rd centile. I’ve been told growth scan at 37 and book for induction few days later due to the medication I’m on for the GD. X

Avatar

I’ve been told the same, but I don’t have GD xx

Avatar

My first was 91st percentile and my current pregnancy is looking similar but I find out on Friday at 36 weeks how big he's looking!

Avatar

Obviously only you can pick what to do. Personal experience my measurements were all off and my early induction due to growth scans/big baby very much caused an emergency c section. If I could do it all over again I’d ignore them and attempt natural before any interventions! This is my plan for February a VBAC where I only have medical intervention if absolutely necessary x

Do active babies in the womb become active newborns?

I had my 40 week ultrasound yesterday (on my due date) and the doctor mentioned how active my baby is. Curious as to your experiences regarding if your baby was active in the womb, are they likely to be active when they’re newborn? 😊

I have a really small bump, at 27 weeks pregnant. People keep commenting on the fact my bump is so small and its starting to worry & get me down. Has anyone here had a small bump with a baby that weighed measured average size? Its really worrying me! I have a 30 week scan and one at 37 weeks because im on a moderate pathway - had a gastric sleeve in 2023 so its to check she is growing but as the comments are coming im now panicking where I wasnt before 😫

Early Labour?

I’m 34 weeks today, since 3am I’ve been having irregular cramping which becomes quite intense and has caused me to vomit. I’ve also had diarrhoea. Could I be in early labour or could I just have a bad stomach? I feel generally well in myself

Movements at 31 weeks

Does anyone else feel like their movements are more subtle since being further along in the pregnancy? I can feel my baby moving inside my belly but I don't feel the movements as "strong" when I put my hand on my belly. Not sure if it's because they've changed from "kicking" to "rolling" movements.

Anyone else feel the same?
