Idk if this has been discussed already but it's kinda wild how many companies have removed their programs. I'm really disappointed with Target

We don't have target here and obviously I'm not American but I've been not going to McDonald's or Walmart. I won't be buying a Ford and I'm looking at ways to move off meta.

no target?? Do you guys only have Walmart out there? Yeah it's a pretty long list, especially F Meta for me.

target didn't succeed in Canada. We have Walmart and I stopped going there in 2023. I try to shop at the international stores

Diversity Equity and Inclusion. So if you see "spiritual rooms" or places for women to breastfeed or pump in someone's places of work that would have happened before of DEI. I've heard people think it's code for hiring black people.

diversity equity and inclusion
this is a big deal right now & in american politics.
typically people that are against DEI have a racist agenda.

it's more of now they don't have to think of things like not all their employees are the same. They won't say it out loud but yeah there is going to be way less diversity in hiring. People didn't realize that affects women of any race and veterans.

basically white men thought it meant hiring under qualified black, Latino, Muslim, LGBTQ, etc people for a job instead of a white man. The idea that any of those people would be as qualified and even more qualified never crossed their minds. What it really meant was qualified people weren't turned away because of things like being disabled, being pregnant, being a minority. It meant the work place wasn't designed to only appeal to the needs of white men. Like prayer spaces, like LGBTQ inclusive language being used, like maternity leave or nursing rooms, etc. it was enriching the work place experience and now they don't have to. I think companies were rewarded for having more diversity in hiring but that doesn't change anything in my mind. Representative matters and that doesn't mean anyone was under qualified.

This is rough. We haven't been to Walmart in a few years. We don't don't do fast food. I don't have a fb or an IG anymore. I won't shop at target. We try to grab groceries at our local grocery stores and sometimes trader joes but they are more expensive than the main grocery stores.
I'm trying to find an alternative to Amazon though. We canceled our prime and we try to only shop when we need more than $75 worth of stuff.

For me it depends, while there are definitely companies rolling back DEI because they never wanted to implement it to begin with. I think we do need to take a second to see what they do now. Are new initiatives being formed which I did hear Target may be doing.
I do think it’s going to cause a larger issue when they realize that DEI benefited white women more than anyone else and they voted against their own best interest again. Minorities even with DEI initiatives still tend to be overqualified for the positions they are in. Having more education than those in managerial positions over them. Black women being amongst the most educated in the country. DEI was never meant to hire unqualified people. it was made so they couldn’t just toss out resumes of people with ethnic sounding names from the jump. They never got to the qualifications just saw Keisha or whatever and threw the paper out.

Trying my best. My kindle unlimited one is going to be hard. And Amazon in general. But the rest are not too bad. My husband loves target but agrees we need to stop or at least cut way back

you’re not stupid!!!! I didn’t know what it meant either! 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻

I’m not disappointed or sad about it. These big companies and corporations never hid their true colors 🤷🏾♀️ so to me it isn’t surprising that as soon as Trump lifted DEI requirements that companies were quick to remove it. Let’s not act like many of those who started these companies or govern them (CEOs and such) aren’t low key racist or else. These companies care about $ not people. If they purposely can go to other countries to get cheap labor and often child labor to produce their products (& sometimes worse), I’m really not surprised at this.

I say eff ‘em all. The only one that stings is Amazon. Damn you, Amazon. We had such a long term relationship too. I was invested! 😩🤣

What sucks is I live in a small town where target and Walmart are essentially the main stores… I haven’t shopped in Walmart for like 15 years cuz I hate how they run their business… and so I get all my essentials either from target or Amazon… and I’ve been trying to cut back from Amazon when I can but target is where I get certain snacks for my kids and we are autistic so like I can’t just stop shopping there altogether… but I have been mindful off certain brands for a while too like I stopped by P&G products years ago as well… but honestly I’m not surprised with target considering how they handled the Pride collection last year… it just sucks so bad… I hate capitalism so much… we in oligarchy hell 😭😭

do you guys have costcos up in Canada?

yeah that's my sons favourite store. I took out my card and he lost his mind so I ended up accidentally deleting my comment. My picture is criminal.

I love a good boycott

wow that's interesting, I think people would implode if there was no Target here. Out there but Walmart usually is looked at the worse company between the two

don't say that!!

people were excited about it but then they didn't have the same stuff you can find in American target so it went under real fast. Krispy Kreme also didn't last here lol

wow you're basically there! Amazon is a tricky one for me too

idk, I look at companies like Target throwing away the program versus Costco who's standing ten toes down and just don't feel right about it. It'll definitely be interesting to see which way they take it because they got some splainin to do.
For me as of right now, it feels like the program was a load of BS for them and that's not the impression I got from some of them before this happened

it sucks!! I feel the exact same, the others can kick rocks

this is true, I guess we just hope that we as consumers buy from companies that reflect our own morals to an extent. I wouldn't buy from an outright Nazi/KKK ran company but who knows what happens behind the scenes. But when I see places like Target that are all about representation in their ads, products, etc it's confusing.
Do you think higher of those companies that didn't remove the program?

lmaao just to find out you're the side chick the whole time

oh Lord, let me go read up about the pride collection, I didn't know about that...yeah ugh I forget about the shitty brands too! There's just so much bad out there

this!! Like ew Google, Amazon, Tesla, meta, all scum. Might as well live off the grid!!

ah I see. I'm actually surprised Krispy Kreme is still in business

thank you for this!! I need the comprehensive list

where are we buying the materials to picket from now?? 😭

you go straight to their site or shop local small business

Actuallly I just saw a post earlier about boycotting strategies for newbies hold up
Well can’t find it lol

I see ALL big corporations the same. I don’t think anyone of them truly care like that especially when you look into their history.

Um no …. 🫠this has been going around my circle I’m sure you’re aware of who Dr Umar is I’m posting it for you specifically/ African Americans individuals of African descent https://youtu.be/P426BAaSEeg

Also this I didn’t look on the department of labor website to check but I’m pretty sure that it’s true in relation to the black community https://www.instagram.com/reel/DFVm_LJOHaW/?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==

What is that?

I personally think it’s too early to boycott these companies and I don’t see how we can pick and choose which one to boycott.

I live in Utah and like six months ago they basically banned all EDI programs from higher ed. We had to go through our website and scrub the words equity, diversity, and inclusion, and all our faculty had to remove any EDI wording from their syllabi, etc. it was so depressing. They closed all our specialized student support centers like the women’s center and minority support centers. So I’m already pretty cynical about it. I’m inspired seeing you all planning to boycott though! https://le.utah.gov/~2024/bills/static/HB0261.html

@Melanie I feel good about how we spend our money, mostly. But the Amazon has to go but there isn't an alternative, not that i have found. 😭 like I could get some of the stuff at the local stores but I'd be paying 2x-3x as much and we're a one income family so it's not something that we can do right now. I hate it.

why is it too early?
And what do you mean by pick and choose?
Is it because of alternate options? Or on the basis that all corporations are corporations and really aren’t for the needs of the community? Or because they’re all a lil bad? Or something else?

dang lol. Well it feels like a good time to start now!!

Amazon got my respect when Jeff bezos denounced any shit talking of BLM/rights of black people during the shit storm that ensued in 2020. The ones that made controversial moves for the LGBT community/the Gaza situation/etc. Things that could cause them to lose customers but didn't care, those are the ones that I feel care

yes good ol Dr. Umar lol. Well I speak on this subject as a black woman but I care for it as a person who cares for other minority groups; other colored people, the LGBT community, etc. Anything hurting other minority groups hurts me as well since my friends and family are a part of those groups as well. And as oppressed as we have been for centuries, I don't feel as if there's no way we are not a part of this change too

Zainab explained it pretty well at the top!

I agree with the picking and choosing! I'm going to look at the lists Violeta posted to make some informed decisions on not giving the ones who rolled back their programs anymore of my business. Some will definitely be harder than others. I feel like with the companies who already made that decision, I'm ready to make mine

rebirth of small businesses!! 🩷
...switching to bing is gonna be rough 🥴

Whaaaa oh hell nooo!!!! I was just talking up Utah!! I'm disgusted by that

I know what you mean and in the same boat. It's absolutely insane how Amazon has monopolized the market. Thinking of it now, I'm more upset about giving up Amazon. I read somewhere that Amazon is changing its wording so I'm going to look into what they're saying they're doing
