Midwife told me today that c-sections are only offered for medical reasons, however this contradicts the guidance on the NHS website. Interested to hear thoughts/experiences!

Your body = your decision. You have every right to make that decision. Advocate for yourself, tell them that you have done your research and you are more than comfortable with your decision - you don’t have to go into the reasons for that.

I get what she means.
You can request it as your choice, but they will not suggest/offer it unless for medical reasons.
In my case it was the only safe option.

I was offered one as safest option. But as Fiona says. Your body , your baby , your decision. I think it’s the recovery time is why they don’t offer but I had a really good experience for mine just my after math that made it harder to rest.
If you go for it ensure 5 days in bed , 5 days in bed, 5 days around bed 🤍

you have a right to request this and they must listen and consider your reasonings carefully

That is a lie. Yes, you can have it even without any medical reason. Push for it. They will try to refuse you but demand it. I had that happen to me and I stayed firm. Know your rights.

You 100% can request a c section without medical reason. I had an elective section in January and it was the right decision for me.If your midwife is saying this I’d ask for someone else. The consultant I spoke to was really understanding they want to know your reasons and that you understand that it’s a major surgery but I felt they were very supportive and did not try to convince me otherwise. I was also very lucky to have a manageable recovery. If it’s something you want definitely push for it, it’s your body!
Thank you so much everyone 🫶🏻 basically my first choice is spontaneous vaginal delivery, however if I go over (say 41-42 weeks) I would rather have a planned c-section than go up the induction ladder (and potentially end up having an emergency c-section anyway). The midwife I spoke to yesterday was covering for my usual midwife who I have a good relationship with, so hoping I can try again with her at my next appointment 🤞🏻

I asked for an elective section with my first and got it. It wasn’t easy, had to speak to doctors and sorts and fight for it; but just stand your ground and you’ll get it x

U can have an elective c section without any medical need, just push for it
