Dietician referral

Our little sausage had CMPA diagnosed 31st of Jan and we have been waiting for a referral - they rejected that one because no height and weight on the letter so have re-referred but trying to speak to someone is proving to be nigh on impossible. Totally dairy and soya free but bubba has had a huge flare and I have no idea what could have caused it - thinking egg. Considering swapping to formula so thay while weaning she at least has a consistent allergen free food source
How have people coped with new allergens popping up, getting to actually speak a dietician and then managing that?

In our experience the gp and paediatricians couldnt really help in any way since the only way to check is eliminating more possible allergens :( We’re currently off dairy, egg and soy but she flares up sometimes. I’m considering cutting wheat if it doesn’t get better but some of it might’ve been due to products that “may contain”

Yeah that's the plan we hit today but the idea of stabbing in the dark when she's so uncomfortable just makes me miserable! 😔

I’m in the exact same situation but my lo was referred in June last year and we’re still waiting to be seen. I was told by a doctor who has a CMPA child himself that those with an IgE allergy are more likely to react to foods with similar proteins. But to only take out of yours and babies diet the ones that cause gastrointestinal problems (diarrhoea, mucusy poos) and severe hives. We are currently milk, soya and egg free. Has slight reaction to wheat and fish but not as bad as those three. Good luck with the formula. My lo absolutely refuses it. It tastes and smells foul. HV and GP said it’s hard to get older babies to accept it because it’s grim and obviously who would want potato smelling liquid over mums sweet milk on tap! Lovely thought but this allergy thing is draining the whole household 😩 x

Oh goodness me so I shouldn't hold my breath then? Interesting re proteins - thank you for that, I appreciate it.
Her excema is horrific at the moment, she's scratching so much she (we) barely slept last night. My other half went to work with matchsticks holding his eyes open.
I think this new one is egg, going to test theory tomorrow.
Still on the fence about the formula, guessing she won't take to it but who knows. Thank you for your message though, it's so reassuring to know we aren't alone. I even went to the children's hospital to try and hunt the dieticians down.. epic fail!

The dietician was useless. It took months and baby was already 8mo and 2m into weaning before we got an appointment.
It was a telephone call.
By that point, we had already discovered fish and oat allergies through weaning, so the dietician immediately discharged her, as we were on another waiting list for immunology.

Avatar

my eyes rolled so far back into my head they said hey to my brain.
So I really shouldn't hold my breath!
How did you go about discovering extra allergies?

Avatar

@Faye we introduced one food at a time and kept a detailed diary of foods, mood, poop, rash etc. Then we could look back to pinpoint what the cause was.

Avatar

I totally feel you 😭 if it’s any consolation- in our case as she’s getting older the flare-ups seem to affect her less. She’ll get a few spots and a streak of blood in her poo but she doesn’t seem more fussy or in pain anymore.
A food diary was a great idea for us too! My girl hated the Aptamil formula and it does smell foul tbh so we’re considering goat milk formula..

Avatar

fantastic, thank you!

Avatar

that absolutely does help thank you, makes me miserable to see her so out of sorts/in pain.
Interesting I'll have to have a big think about that. Don't get me wrong, I'd kill for a cuppa or a big fat wedge of cheese but I'm not 100% sure I want to swap over yet

The dietician will likely just advise eliminating all possible allergens from your diet and reintroducing them. The most common seem to be
Egg
Coconut
Banana
Beef
Oats

However, just bear in mind that eczema can be triggered by other factors too such as changes in weather and heating routines at home, changes in laundry products or other things they may come into contact with such as your moisturisers etc

I’m currently dairy, soya, egg & wheat free strictly & have been for months. My LO is still reacting to something as he has mucous in his poo & the occasional streak of blood. By the time we spoke to a dietician he was 4 months and point blank refused amino acid formula. He has reflux too & the vomit smelt vile, to the point it would make me gip so I’m not surprised he won’t drink it over my breast milk. I’m going to reintroduce wheat and then cut out something else but he’ll be flipping weaning age by then! Nightmare. Hate to think of something upsetting his gut but they threatened a feeding tube if he doesn’t put weight on!
Good luck with everything, it’s a hard road x

Avatar

thank you for that - I will keep an eye peeled.
We are looking at environmental factors as well but the only thing on your list is heating as we have it on less as the weather changes. Will have to see

Avatar

yeah I get the feeling the formula refusal is pretty universal!
Thank you for your message - hope you can navigate as well, definitely nowhere near easy!

my eczema without fail flares whenever we change from winter to spring so the doctor outside weather isn’t beyond the realms of possibility

Avatar

that's also reassuring!
This whole thing is proving to be a massive skchekkshfkwkjdfn and is driving me slightly bonkers

We started off as just cows milk & egg free...as we have been weaning we found alot more allergies. We have only had 1 dietitian appointment and 1 paediatrician appointment. We avoided foods that we have found during weaning and waited over 6 months to get an appointment through, to go into hospital and try my daughter with milk products in a controlled environment. We haven't heard from anyone during this time. I understand they are very busy but it's scary and I personally think they take the piss. My daughter is 16months old and still on formula smh 🤦‍♀️

I'm so sorry it's been so stressful for you - gathering from what everyone has said, this seems to be par for the course which is just shocking really.
I'm going from department to department just trying to talk to someone.
I think we are going to go private in the end, seems to be the only way to actually get help

Avatar

Thank you. I'm sure we will get there one day... I hope 🙄 & it seems like going private is the only option these days. NHS is a shambles. We started pricing it up and then got an appointment through, so we didn't bother. I hope you have better look than the rest of us 🙂 @Faye

Induction?

Anyone been induced before? Was it more painful? Better than thought? Worse than thought? Worth it? Thoughts?

Induction or c section?

As a last resort, would you rather be induced or have a planned c section?

Really not liking the thought of being induced from people’s experiences I’ve read!

Growth scan

So had my 28 week midwife appointment- all good but after measuring bump- I’m now waiting on a scan within a few days as bump is measuring small I’m not worried as I am guessing a tape measure is hardly accurate but
For anyone who has been in a similar position- what was the outcome after the scan? Was the baby on the smaller side ?
Was baby measuring normal?

Thanks
