Nights are pretty rough now. For the past few weeks my 2 year old has been having issues sleeping. I tried some homeopathic kids meds. I think it’s by hylands. Yesterday was really rough so I gave him about .5ml of melatonin and it didn’t help. Lots of screaming and crying still.
Tonight I was at my limit and I gave him 2 mg of melatonin. And now he’s asleep and I’m worried i gave him too much! Sources say between 3-5 ml is the limit but I’m still worried. Anyone else give their toddler melatonin before and how much ? Also I know melatonin isn’t good for long term use.

It's not really recommended before 3 years old but when nights got really rough we gave 0.5 ml
After a few minutes we got everything quiet and dark and we cuddled with her and she'd be out
Definitely don't give it every night
Talk to his doctor if it's bad and 0.5 wasn't helping, I definitely wouldn't give 2ml at this age, especially not multiple nights in a row. I'd just ask his doctor what you can do to help
I honestly don’t know what to believe. Some melatonin meds say 2+ some say 3+. I never wanted to use it in the first place but my mental health is in such a bad place and we have a 1 year old too who wakes up when my 2 year old cries. Nonetheless I won’t be using it anymore. It’s not worth the worrying! I just hope I didn’t give him too much..
Crazy thing is I gave him so we can all have a good night sleep. Now I’m up watching him to make sure he’s okay. There goes my good night sleep 😞

I think he should be okay. I know, I was the same, my husband bought it and wanted to use it for her and it took me a minute to be able to even just give 0.5. She got better with her sleep and we haven't given it in months
Try heating up some milk, my 2 year old recently went back to being, not as bad, but a little bad at sleeping again and heating up the milk actually helped her quite a bit and I heard bananas help too but we haven't tried that yet
I believe the 3+ more than the 2+ cause that's what I've always heard and found whenever I researched it

I'm sorry

Ask their pediatrician. We did for when our second baby came. We were told how to do it safely for her. But we’ve only done it once or twice in the past year(second baby’s birth). My husband thinks it doesn’t work, to me it just didn’t work quickly but it worked

I was told it’s not recommended until three but if you use it moderately and use a safe one it’s okay for a two year old. Only extreme cases should it be used

My two year olds pediatrician actually recommended us give him melatonin because he was having such bad nights waking up every single night just crying or getting up at 5am and not go back to sleep. We give him 1mg on the days he takes naps, and no melatonin when he doesn’t nap, so he just goes to sleep on his own. I’m not sure if 2mg is too much, but I think your baby will be ok.

I have used it before on my 2-yr old son who is very very very hipper then ur average 2- year old I’m it was 5mg or a half of a 10 mg but then I started to see that all of the melatonin has its affects on the toddler body too the point where they can’t even go to sleep without it so I stopped using that and then started the sleep patches there much safer and more effective and faster than the melatonin but always double check with your doctor because each child body in intake on meds is very different

Tire him out , playground every day for atleast 30mins, if u have a little inflatable pool, perfect! He will play for hours I bet, Just make sure to supervise and he has floaters on, maybe no naps in the afternoon? if it’s really that bad and make sure he gets plenty of sunlight in the morning, it helps with the circadian rhythm and makes him sleepy by the time it’s evening. Lights off at 7pm, no sound, no tv or tablet after 6pm. Any stimulating activity, cut it before 7pm. Make sure he’s well feed during dinner, by mostly carbohydrates and milk, has tryptophan and helps aid in sleep. Kids have 10x energy than us and all they need is to physically move around. He is too young. No need for melatonin. You can do this.

I do regularly. I have given it to my kids from ages 1 year old as i fly internationally regularly and the time changes are insane. It helps them get onto a routine faster. I also give it to them if they are struggling to fall asleep at night to help them out.

What about trying some chamomile tea instead? After it cools down of course 😊

this doesn’t work for every kid. Maybe she’s already tried these things. I doubt any mom wants to just put their kid(s) on a pill. I’ve tried everything with my daughter even waking up earlier with no nap and the earliest I can get her asleep is after midnight, with no naps at all. It use to be 3-5 am every night. Only reason this is happening is because of the new baby. He has a normal sleeping schedule, so her play buddy is gone and mommy’s tired. Even then, she still tries to jump around in the bed and tickle everyone awake for a hour or so before giving up. But since birth, nighttime was always when she wanted to be up no matter how long she stayed up during the day, how long we let her run around and play outside or in. My husband got fired from two jobs because of it. So some kids just need some extra help here and there until they fix it themselves.

sleepy time tea also might help. My mom use to give that to my brother every night
my son woke up at 1 am this morning. Which he has been doing for the past few weeks. I guess it didn’t really work for us but I’m glad he’s okay nonetheless.
absolutely not. A few weeks ago I saw they sell melatonin for toddlers and I was like nah but yesterday i hit my limit. And I have a one year old who isn’t sleeping though the night. He wakes up every night for a bottle and now his brother is waking him up now too. I had a break down the other day. I tried the melatonin and regretted it. He woke up at 1 am this morning anyway screaming that he wanted to “get out” his bed. Idk if he’s scared of the dark now or what. It’s just so draining. My husband and I both work and we are so tired. Hoping it gets better for you and your family.

I would definitely try the teas. It seemed to help my brother. My daughter so just super picky with her food or I would be giving it to her too.
I hope you’re able to figure out what he needs. The dark fear seems like a good idea. I would get a nightlight from Walmart and try it out for your family and see if that changes it. My daughter needed one too.

Maybe he’s having night terrors?

Have their four molars came in yet? My daughter got super fussy and have you thought about ear infections ? ❤️

I’ve never used the night time one I’ve only used the daytime . I hope it helps !
