Reviews on hospitals for birth

Hi ladies, I’m curious to hear peoples’ takes on hospitals for birth. What you liked, didn’t like, wish you had known, etc? Thanks for any thoughts and tips you may have!

I gave birth at kaiser in harbor city. Worst experience ever. Most people were so cold with us. I was induced and they had me there for hours while my baby had a low heart rate until i was 10cm dilated, drugged up, trying to push my baby out just so i had to get an emergency c section. Turns out babys cord was wrapped around her torso. Then when we had the baby in the room, it was so cold and they kept saying they turned up the heater but it wasn’t working. Then someone said that the baby needed a cold room. Just felt like they didnt care about us. Just a bunch of things like that kept happening. I moved to san diego and gave birth at ucsd for my second and it was totally different! Way better experience. My advice is just to speak up on what you want. Dont let them treat you like we are not people.

Hi Paola, glad you had a better experience at UCSD. Sorry to hear about your experience at Kaiser, I actually changed my insurance from Kaiser just before pregnancy and glad I did now. Hope you’re doing well

I had my little at Torrance memorial. I actually loved it. I was there for 4 days (had a planned C section since baby was breach and not turning) they were very attentive, lots of good food options around and the food served wasn’t bad. At one point I had a nurse I didn’t like and asked the head for a new one and they had no issue switching. My room was comfortable. The Dad bed wasn’t that great but neither was he so if that matters bring extra pillows. It was very clean as well. I also stayed at long beach memorial for a week with my first pregnancy while battling HG. They caught that I was miscarrying pretty quickly and was very sensitive and empathetic through the entire process. Hope this helps

I see you changed your insurance from Kaiser but I gave vaginal birth at Kaiser Harbor city as well but had a great experience! My nurses and midwife were incredibly kind and responsive to me, weren’t strict about me eating despite epidural, listened to me when I wanted to be repositioned often. The only BAD part was the postpartum recovery ward - my room was outside the nurses station and they had ZERO respect for our need to sleep, they were out there chatting all night and day loudly. Best advice is to just be accepting of whatever may happen during your labor. I thought I would want to stay in the hospital to recover an extra day or 2 but was relieved to be able to go home the morning after delivery.

Thank you so much for the responses!
