Midwife appointments

Hey all just wanting to know how often you have midwife appointments? This is my second baby due the 31st of July and I had my last appointment at 16 weeks and don’t have an other one till 28 weeks. With my first I had a lot more so if just seen crazy to go so long without being checked, don’t know if this something just decided by each hospital or it’s national ? X

I had at my first at 20 weeks (it was meant to be 16 weeks but they didn’t tell me I needed to arrange it or how to do this 🙄). I have my next one this week at 26 weeks.
I’m 22nd July.
My first baby so no idea if it is normal though! X

I think it's just how it is. I'm a ftm but I looked at all the midwife apps that I went to and on a few of them it did say (first baby only) ... This is according to the NHS app - first baby only at 25, 31 and 40

I had my first one at 10 weeks from then I had one every 6 weeks till I got to 24 weeks its now every 3 weeks i see the midwife. It’s my first baby not sure if it will be different for each area and for your second baby but this is just how it has been for me.

Had my first at 13 weeks and second at 17 weeks! My next one is now not until mid June as need a fit to fly letter! Will be around 26 weeks Had loads more with my first! X

Second time mum and mine is the same. Had 16 week midwife appointment, the scan at 20 weeks and don’t have another midwife appointment till 28 weeks. I think it’s crazy how little we get seen. 😢Even after the 28 week appointment I’m pretty sure it’s then you don’t have anything till 34 weeks! I have been to triage a few times during the gap for various reasons so that has given me some reassurance and at least then I know my vitals are okay and I’ve heard baby’s heartbeat.

Thanks ladies , I just find it crazy how little your seen after your first . Hope everyone’s pregnancy’s are going well xx

I know it’s just crazy! It’s like there’s just an attitude of well you’ve had one baby so you must be fine with this one which is not the case as plenty of women have complications in future pregnancies even if they didn’t in their first.

2nd time mum 1st appointment with my midwife was at 18 weeks then 24, then this week at 28 and will be every 4 weeks until baby is here (I guess it also depends on your nhs trust and how busy they are)

That’s normal for a low risk second baby. Booking in, 16 weeks, 28 weeks, 32, then every 2 weeks u til baby comes (or that’s what it in my area)

Avatar

With your second baby, you do get less appointments xx

Avatar

You unfortunately get less appointments in your 2nd (3rd, 4th etc) pregnancy x

Just been to my 25 weeks appointment with my midwife and she booked me in at 28 weeks, then said I’d be in at 32, 36, 40… so on. I guess it’s different depending where you are x

Avatar

Mine is 16, 28, 32 and then every two weeks although I’m now getting seen every 1-2 weeks due to high blood pressure so if you have any concerns definitely talk to them as they’ll book you in for more if needed

Avatar

Completely normal second time round. In first pregnancy you have a 25 week appointment too but thats the only real difference x

Thanks for everyone’s responses, I just feel you are left a on your own completely. I don’t know if it’s just my trust, I also just noticed whiles looking through my pregnancy notes it says I’m classed as high risk ? I have no idea why as this hasn’t been discussed 🤷🏻‍♀️ I have messaged my midwife but to be honest whenever I message her I feel like I’m just a bother so I try not to.

Avatar

oh no I’m sorry you feel like that. I had a similar experience with my original midwife who said she’d sort my matb1 form before my work’s deadline but then left for a 2 week holiday then never returned. Apparently “quietly retired” without even getting back to my calls or message. I was just left hanging and the GP wasn’t much help. I have a new one now and I feel sooo much better, informed and reassured with her. See if you can switch midwives? Your risk status should have definitely been discussed with you as it will help inform the birth plan they advise and I guess the type of care you have? Xx

Hospital bag (UK)

What did everyone pack for their section? I'm staying in for 3 days due to mental health, not really sure what I'll need to bring, feeling very nervous. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Pregnancy after c section

What time scale did everyone get pregnant again after a c section?
I know the doc said they recommend eating at least a year to 18 months but it took 4 years to get pregnant the first time after being told we could not conceive naturally so not wanting to stop it happening knowing it could take a very long time again but also worried.

I got a membrane sweep when I hit 40 weeks (hurt like hell btw) and what I THOUGHT was my mucus plug a few weeks ago clearly wasn’t it cause now I believe I just lost it and grossed myself out thinking my water broke lol induction set for the day I hit 41 weeks tho I’m terrified 😩
