Co-parenting, does your child cry for the other parent?

My son randomly started crying, said he missed his dad (he's not seen him since mid march, as he sees them once a month, proposed April date kids were unwell so we rescheduled until next weekend) I comfort my child but I really get annoyed this situation is created because of his dad doing the bare minimum with no contact between. I just want to dissolve all contact if he can't step up more. No we can't communicate because he always acts like an ass hole and is in this victim state, depressed and lonely allegedly because the kids he never made time for are no longer present. Even in this moment I'm still lying through my teeth to reassure and comfort my son.

My youngest hasn't seen her father since 2023. No contact, nothing. She still randomly makes a comment. But once redirected is happy and doesn't mention him again for months. I ask why? And in reality the thing she misses is a particular thing like going to the beach, not him. Maybe delve deeper next time and see what your child actually misses
