Baby not napping during the day (HELP)

Hey Mamas,

I’m going crazy here. My 5-week-old doesn’t nap anymore. He’s been awake since 8 a.m., and it’s now 2 p.m. He had a ~30-minute nap in the stroller and maybe 3–4 drowsy moments of about 10 minutes each when I was trying to put him to sleep—but that’s it. Is this normal?

He’s constantly eating and wants to be held all day. The moment he gets drowsy in our arms and we try to transfer him to the crib, he wakes up wide-eyed. He also hates being swaddled and fights to get his arms free. But without the swaddle, his arm movements wake him up instantly.

What should I do, mama? I’m exhausted and can’t even find a silent moment to use the bathroom.

I could have written this myself. My daughter is the same age, and she's been crying practically since 5:30am. She had a couple of 20 min snoozes but that's it. I wish I had the answer, hopefully someone else here does! Just wanted you to know you're not alone.

Exact same situation here. 😬 He falls asleep while breastfeeding though, I know I don’t have enough of milk so I guess he uses me as a pacifier but he doesn’t use the real pacifier as a pacifier. But he wakes up in 10/15 mins or the second I try to get up. 🥲 And similarly, he hates being swaddled and apparently his bassinet. Hoping to see other mama’s tips here.

Hey! My two week old boy has been like this for the past two days. Some things that have helped are:

- Having him sleep on my chest. I get comfy on the bed, have him sleep with his ear to my heart and make sure to have a show loaded up + snacks. I have snacks on my bedside.

- he might be at an age/weight where you can strap him on you too…

- my baby also hates swaddling. We compromise by taking one arm out and he still gets startled but it’s not as bad as two arms / no swaddle. When he startles himself I just let him cry and figure out how to go back to sleep. I’m there watching over him but won’t immediately pick up unless he can’t soothe himself.

- soothie. I did not do my research on this but he’s two weeks and we’ve already started using it. The crying is a lot to handle as a new parent..

I feel you! Hang in there ❤️‍🩹

Oh mamas, I thought we were the only ones struggling to figure out our tiny human! The moment he refuses the bottle (pumped breast milk—since he doesn’t latch… or maybe I just don’t know how to get him to latch haha), I know he’s getting sleepy.

According to the Moms on Call page, they say you should move the baby to the bassinet when they’re drowsy—but no matter how slowly or gently I transfer him, the second his tiny head touches the mattress, he’s wide awake. LOL (I’m crying here haha).

I have this issues too. When he’s breastfeeding, he would sleep but if i lay him on a flat surface he walk up like a hawk.
I have got a swinger that he likes and once I’ll put him in that he sleeps at least for 3-4 hours straight. However the swinger needs to side by side (horizontal movements) instead of up and down.
Also if he cry’s too much he needs to be soothe and then I’ll lay down and feed him laying down. Which generally helps.
I hope this helps ❤️

what type of swinger do you use? Is it an automatic one?

I also got him a swing (MamaRoo) but he doesn’t seem to like it very much.

ooh, looks cozy, thanks I’ll look into one of those too☺️

when you place him down, are you putting him flat on his back and head? If so, sometimes that triggers baby’s startle reflex. It helps to lay them down first on their side, and while still holding them, gently bring him down on his back. There also this comfort hold technique: https://youtube.com/shorts/Iy--gAOI21Q?feature=shared

And for all moms! There are lactation experts that do consults at the EARLYON centres for free.

I have a Mamaroo also, she hates it. I think they may need to be a bit older to appreciate it lol.

When do things get easier?

As we entered the 9-12 month stage, my son started crawling and pulling himself up. He also became more clingy and does not play alone, still doesnt sleep through the night, and this week has been sick (so EVERYTHING amplified). I am tired and overwhelmed. Please lie and tell me things get better. 🥺

Colostrum storing?

Has anyone successfully extracted colostrum before the baby’s born? Apparently it gets produced from 16w pregnant and you can start storing it in the freezer but I’m 34w looking at my nipples and the syringes on amazon wondering how it works?? Like what did you use and did it hurt? 🥲

4 month bed time

What time do you put your babies to bed?
What time do you start your 'routine?'
My LO currently goes to bed around 10.30pm, and I know i need to start bringing it forward. Everytime ive tried, it takes longer for my LO to settle.
We are exclusively breastfeeding. Any advice Mamas?

Combi feeding advice

Has anyone gone from EBF to combi feeding? Currently do one bottle of EBM per night and they one half formula half breast milk mixed in the day. The other times she still feeds on me. Ideally I want to feed all day via bottle and all night with breast. She’s 7 weeks and takes a bottle well, how long should I leave it before adding another bottle to her daily routine?

Self settling

Any tips or advice of how to teach 6.5month old to self settle? I’m up multiple times in the night to cuddle her back to sleep and put the dummy in. I understand she will wake up and want a cuddle etc but any tips on self settling would be appreciated 🥰
