Car seats

My twins are 10months and are outgrowing their baby car seats. What age are we meant to change car seats once they outgrow them and what cars seats do we change to?

It’s not really age related but more height and weight. If they’ve outgrown their infant carrier then they can go into a next stage car seat. I had a Joie iSnug and my son outgrew it at 6 months. If I’d have bought a better seat he would still be in it now until 12m+!

@Skye can u recommend the next one up from this age, I’ve heard the front facing seats are dangerous at this age but I’m not sure what other ones I’m supposed to get?

@Nadine ideally you’d want to keep rear facing until about 4-5 years old until the bones have fused properly. A crash forward facing before this age is 5x more dangerous for a baba that’s why people love rear facing! It depends on your budget tbh especially if you have twins. I have an Axkid Minikid 2 but it was £200, I bought through Klarna but it’s still expensive if you need two! They are tested above the UK standards though so are very safe x

@Skye thanks hun I’ve have a lil look into some x

My 10 month old twins are also outgrowing their infant car seats but only by height, we just bought the Graco extend2fit 3in1 because it allows for extended rear facing, front facing, and can be a high back booster once they’re big enough.

Search car seats for littles it’s a great site and walks you through all the different types of seats. But make sure you are adjusting your seat at each stage. It’s more about height and weight and the protection around their head. Please rear face as long as possible it may look uncomfortable to you but they can cross their legs and be comfortable. Most infant seats are to 30-35lbs. They just get heavy. We then moved to Gracie 4ever it turns in to so many different seats it was worth it for us. I have light kids.

You'll want a toddler seat that can be installed rear or forward facing. In the US, they are called convertible seats because the convert from rear to forward facing and often into a highback booster seat too. Whatever they are called in the UK, you'll want to look for one that has high rear facing limits so your LO can rear face as long as possible. Regardless of what is legally allowed by local laws, the science is clear that is safest to rear face as long as possible.

We got our LO the Cybex Senora it swivels so it goes rear to forward facing and when you want to get your baby out you can turn to face you!

There’s a car seat safety group on here that’s quite helpful!

@Natasha what’s it called?

We have the Silvercross all motion 2 360 and Planning to change them into it at 1 (just when they out grown their infant car seat)
