Screaming at nap time

I guess I’m just looking for reassurance that LO behaviour is “normal”. She is fine at night and for her first nap but later in the day (lunch/afternoon) naps she is absolutely hysterical.

I don’t know if she’s overtired or under tired (she doesn’t really show ‘cues’) and I try to follow huckleberry but it stresses me out so much when she has a meltdown. Try to pop her down first but then try comforting, feeding to sleep and rocking and nothing works :( she’s 5.5 months. I have a toddler as well so it’s really hard to create a “calming environment” before naps.

Does she have regular wake windows? How long is she awake between naps and how long are her naps?

If she’s fighting naps it might be that she’s under tired or ready to drop a nap.

Avatar

She’s awake about 1.75-2.25 hrs and her naps are about 30 minutes. I want to get her to drop the last nap as she’s still on 4 but she gets up at 5am so it’s hard to stretch it to bedtime x

You could try stretching her wake windows slightly, even by 15 mins or so, and see how she takes it. If you’ve tried rocking and feeding and she still isn’t sleeping, seems most likely she’s not tired yet.

Does she nap in her pram? I found the easiest way to tell when my baby was wanting to be awake longer was taking her on a pram walk and seeing when she fell asleep.

Last week she jumped from 2.5-2.75hr wake windows to 3-3.5hrs. Naturally she dropped her third nap this way. First wake window tends to be the shortest and the rest are longer.

My little one done this around 5 months for about 2 weeks then went back to his usual, I thought he was maybe having a growth spurt or going through a developmental stage x

I'd try stretching wake windows, I find my boy does this if I try put him down to soon.. generally his wake windows are 2.5-3 hrs now. Maybe 2.15 for the first one! I've never really used an app but tried huckleberry for a few days recently and it was suggesting to soon and he was getting upset where usually he goes down without a peep.

Yeah my girl is usually upset with her naps I think she’s overtired. At bed time she’s happy falling to sleep and will self settle. I haven’t found a solution so can’t help in that sense but you’re not alone x

My girl is the same. Cries for her afternoon naps and stuck on 4 naps too as can’t stretch her wake windows. Have tried but she’s usually rubbing her eyes and yawning before 2 hours. Also can’t get her to extend her naps. She self settles at night but can’t for her naps x

Exactly the same. Been fighting naps for few weeks now. Since this week he's also fighting night time sleep. Really hope it's a phase. However once he sleeps at night he's sleeping well and long.

My LG has never liked naps but it has gotten much harder at 5 months, I think there is a leap around then where they get separation anxiety. She's 5.5m heading to 6, and its starting to get better.
I gave up following Huckleberry, it was right sometimes, but I think it also depended a lot on if she had a lot of stimulation or got excited around nap time, then she would not feel tired. So I just let her stay up and experimented. Sometimes they're just not tired when the app says they are.

My advice would be to stop following strict schedules. I drove myself insane trying to follow the same schedule every day! I was stressing she wasn’t sleeping the same times every day - once I realised that some wake windows was 1.5 hours and some are 3 hours… my life became so much simpler! I’ve only come to this realisation about 2 weeks ago, I do all the usual activities and let her just ‘shout’ for a bit (not crying).

I feel it’s important for babies to feel almost bored for a bit, learn about their voice. I find if I let her shout for about 15 minutes after she starts rubbing her eyes, she’ll go down a dream for 40 mins or so.

But all babies are different! Important to note that most babies in this age category are going through 2 weeks of fussiness around this time. Might just be a learning leap! All things aside, it’ll be okay in the long run 💕

My baby has went through phases of this also, he’s 6 months now and it’s not so bad. All babies are different but I know in our case my son starts to rub his eyes and slam his toys when he’s getting tired, then I know it’s time for a nap or hell will break loose😂 it’s totally normal though and it will pass x

Hands in mouth

How often are your baby's hands in their mouth?

I know it's perfectly normal development but even when my 12 week old is asleep all I can hear is them having a good munch on their 'apparently' tasty hands. 😂

Don't get me started on the cheese smelling lint collectors no matter how many times I clean them throughout the day. 😂

Neurodiverse?

Really worried about my 7.5 month old. To be honest, started picking up on certain “quirks” at around 4 months old. Being a foster carer for 20 years my specialty is placements of the neurodiverse, and learning disabilities. However they have never been this tiny, and I’m wondering if these are just normal things or likely to be “something”. I’d rather not hear that she is too young, or what the difference would be, because she’s not to young to be showing signs but no, it wouldn’t make an ounce of difference , she’s literally my world.

She doesn’t sleep, at all. Maybe one nap a day, two if I’m lucky, has been since 3 months old and only ever 30 mins or less. Owlet registers over 30+ wakes a night, it’s relentless, she’s still in our bedroom for this reason.

She’s NON STOP. Constantly bouncing, wriggling, refused to be strapped in anywhere, loves to move m, rougher the better, thrown high, etc- huge sensory output. Doesn’t sit still, can’t read with her, keep her entertained for any length of time

Constantly rubs her forefinger and thumb together in cross shape all day, only one hand. Always points her feet. Hand ALWAYS in her mouth, from 2.5 months. Keeps pulling head to one side randomly.

Used to love certain toys and sensory items- now screams if she’s near them. Hates shoes and socks, laughs randomly all the time, can play for hours just with stacking cups and gets so overstimulated multiple times a day.

Confession one time I met a cool mom on here

We hung out in person like 5 times and it seemed pretty good. Our kids got along. I was struggling with post partum depression and I missed a few of her texts and didn’t see and I convinced myself she ghosted me and I got super mad and I suppose she thought I did the same to her and we didn’t speak for like 3 months. Then we tried hanging out again and again convinced myself she didn’t like me and that there was weird vibes and we never spoke again. After my post partum went away I realize she never ghosted me and there wasn’t really anything weird. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️friendship lost.

Settling after night wakes

Baby boy is 6 months - does anybody have any tips on how to settle my little boy back to sleep at night? Usually he wakes every hour and I have only been able to feed him to sleep… trouble is, he is breastfed but has terrible reflux so have to hold him for a while before I put him back down. After the first wake, he won’t go back down in his cot, he ends up in bed with us, but I don’t want this to be the norm. He won’t take a dummy either and screams if put down awake 😢 running off little sleep, any tips appreciated x

Lump in breast when breastfeeding

I have found a lump in my breast that is sore to touch and hard. It feels kind of moveable. Has anyone had this while breastfeeding? It’s not mastitis as I’ve had that a few times

Sleep regression - first signs?

For those of you who are in the throes of the 4 month sleep regression, were there any initial signs this was coming? My daughter is still ok overnight atm (touch wood) but during the day she is pretty much guaranteed to wake up after 40 mins on the dot and I am wondering if this is a sign of what’s to come at night. We didn’t have any regressions with my first (unicorn) baby so unsure what I am looking out for/whats in store?!
