Nipple pain

My baby is now 4 weeks old and the nipple pain during / after breastfeeding is still excruciating. I used nipple guards at first and now don’t need them. My HV said it would be uncomfortable but it’s close to excruciating. Am I doing something wrong… I also need to file her nails as they keep catching on my nipples. I’m close to tears!

Definitely go to a breastfeeding support group at your local childrens centre- it sounds like the latch maybe wrong! Also use some balms to soothe your nipple and surrounding areas a few times a day (a natural one as baby will also be ingesting a bit of it)!

I got told by a midwife if the latch was good then the pain would subside after the first few moments of the feed. Perhaps get some support from the feeding team. I know how challenging the excruciating pain can be physically and mentally.

As above, pop to a latch on group or contact breastfeeding and lactation support on fb, they can help.

Also check for signs of thrush, with my first I felt like hot needles were being put in my nipples and it was thrush! 🥴

Oh no! I know that feeling 💔😔You’re not doing anything wrong! It’s an adjustment, it takes time, it’s one of the hardest things to do. But promise it’s worth it and then it’ll be the easiest thing. Put lanisoh nipple balm on like alll the time. Before feeds, after feeds. And don’t cover them. Keep your bra off for about 20ish mins with the balm on every so often. But deffo put the balm on all the time. You can also get the silverettes. Message me if you want some advice on latching. I struggled a lot with my first but I did get there and it’s going well now with my second xx

Ah I really feel for you, this is so tough. I experienced excruciating pain when feeding my first baby, and it turned out he had tongue tie and challenges with latch. I saw the infant feeding team to get help with the latch, and also a private IBCLC consultant as I was desperate at the time (my son also refused to take a bottle, so I felt trapped with the painful feeding). One thing that helped for me was seeing a cranio-osteopath, as my son had a tightness in his neck that made it hard for him to latch properly. Once I got the tongue tie revised and had a few sessions with the osteopath, and worked on latch, it got a lot better. But I did experience the severe pain until around week 8. Silver nipple cups, medicated hydrogel breast discs, heated breast pads and a combo of paracetamol and ibuprofen got me through those 8 weeks! I hope you find something that works for you 🤞

Leaky nappy help

What nappies are you using to stop leaks?? We use pampers ultra dry size 5, and for the past few nights he has lashed through and we’ve had to completely change him during the night. Last night he leashed through twice!! He sleeps on his front and stays leaks through at the top of his leg where the tabs connect. Didn’t know whether to size up, he has a bit of a belly on him but he’s smack in middle of weight guidance so shouldn’t need too

4 month bed time

What time do you put your babies to bed?
What time do you start your 'routine?'
My LO currently goes to bed around 10.30pm, and I know i need to start bringing it forward. Everytime ive tried, it takes longer for my LO to settle.
We are exclusively breastfeeding. Any advice Mamas?

5.30am wakeups 😫😴

My 15 week old has started waking up about 5.30am and is really hard to settle back down - it’s like he thinks it’s time to wake up for the day. He used to go to bed at 9pm and was up at 8am but now he goes to bed between 7.30-8pm as he’s knackered by then but waking up at 5.30am😴. Any advice to get him to sleep a little longer in the morning?! Even an extra hour would be lovely 🤣

New born

Finally had my baby girl via C-section on the 18th, everything has been so far. But I’ve noticed she’s very fussy and cries a lot. I’ve been trying to exclusively breastfeed. The lactation consultant at the hospital said I did look like I’m making enough milk for her. She was latching on good at the hospital and now here at home, she doesn’t seem to want to latch at all. She’s been crying a lot and very fussy. I’m just wondering is she’s colic or like maybe she just doesn’t want the breast anymore?
