Thoughts on deli meat during pregnancy

I’m 16 weeks pregnant and I have been dying for a Jersey Mike’s cold club sub. What are your thoughts on eating cold deli meat while you’re pregnant?

Personally I never did. To me it wasn’t worth the risk for a craving.

I'd be tempted to but my husband really wants to toe the line on the rules :)
The expecting better book by Emily Oster does say turkey is the worst culprit so maybe go for a different meat if you decide to. Her analysis of the situation is quite thorough highly recommend the whole book if you haven't read

I’ve eaten plenty of lunch meat (both at home and at subway) during my pregnancy. I just always heat it up first! I’ve also heard from friends that have several kids that they gave into cold cut subs and they never had any issues and their kids are perfectly healthy. 🤷🏻‍♀️ There is a risk, so just do your own research before making your decision. (:

I don't follow the guidelines to a t because you have the same chance of getting listeria regardless of whether you're pregnant or not. The issue comes in that if you do get listeria it is more likely to be devastating. In 25 years I've never had it and even though they say deli meats are more likely to have it, any food can have it. There was an issue with bluebell ice cream years ago where they had a listeria outbreak. Any food that has touched another person's hands runs the risk of having it. I try to avoid cold meats and the like but if I really want it I will still eat it. I encourage everyone to make the best decision they can make for themselves

I had about 2 subs a week, was a huge craving for me. You can get listeria from anything, pregnant or not. That’s just me. I mean you can have them toast your sub.

i ate it all the time. no issues for me

With my first i heated it up. With this pregnancy i have had a couple of cold subs.

I only had it warmed up. The risk of listeria is quite low even with cold deli meat but I didn’t want to risk anything. The bigger issue is probably the nitrates in it tbh

I did it on accident when I was pregnant with my daughter. I was craving a sub so bad. I went to Milios and got me a number 8. The Big Steer with roast beef and smoked ham. 😋 It wasnt until a couple days later that my mom told me I shouldn't eat deli meat pregnant. Oops lol. I had no issues though. I would at least warm it up first before eating deli meat pregnant again.

I never craved deli meat while pregnant. For me personally, it's not worth the risk to eat it cold when the easy fix is to heat it up. Granted this advice is coming from someone who had the occasional glass of wine during her first pregnancy, so take my pregnancy advice with a grain of salt

Could always get it, heat the meat and put it back when it’s cooled

I ate it all the time. Then again I ate alot of stuff that was deemed “bad” for pregnant women lol if I craved it I ate it idc

Avatar

I air fry my sandwiches so the meat gets heated. I’ve been craving Vietnamese sandwiches and that’s what I’ve been doing

Avatar

Done it I my first and still do now with my second x

I ate whatever while I was pregnant that included sushi (cooked ) and deli meat and medium rare steaks it should be fine girl go get some Jersey Mike’s

Avatar

I ate them but if I went to subway I had them double toast my food. Like warm the meat first then heat it again once it was on the sandwich

I used to crave subs when I was pregnant, as long as I ate them in moderation I was fine!

Day out after c section

Hey,
I had an emergency c section 1 week ago I obviously don't want a day out right now but I have things booked for the Easter holidays so in 2 weeks. I was just wondering if I will be overdoing it if I have a day out then or will I be ok? I would still take it as easy as I could. When did everyone feel good enough to go out?

Period like cramps

Hi
I’m currently 33 weeks pregnant and I keep getting period like cramps I thought these were Brixton hicks but I’ve heard they only last 30 seconds ish as this can go on for a good time frame then go away and come back, they aren’t bad enough where I can’t do basic things they just feel like I’m about to get my period I’m jus wondering how normal this is? Baby is still very actively kicking xx

Invited to a chuckie cheese party but I don't have money and don't want to tell my daughter that's why we can't go. Does anyone know how their parties work?

I'm not sure how chuckie cheese parties are. If they give you money to play or not if you're in the party. And then I'm wondering if it's an actual birthday party or if they're just going to chuckie cheese. Some guy in my building told me a couple weeks ago that his son's birthday is today and he's thinking of doing chuckie cheese. They sent an invite but I feel so insecure not being able to afford anything. Like if they don't have food for example. Idk what to do.

Owlet

Anyone else’s owlet driving them mad?? It goes off 5/6 times night saying it can’t get a reading and needs a snug fit. My baby is 8 months old so moves a lot. It is driving me insane and I keep end up taking it off! Anyone had similar issues?

Reduced Movements

Has anyone else gone in for monitoring for reduced movements and as soon as you arrive at triage the baby starts moving and the CTG is normal? It makes me feel like I am over reacting.
