Drained and exhausted!! 😭

Hi everyone,
Just looking for a bit of advice and support really. My baby has just turned 5 months, and for the past few weeks he’s been wanting to feed every two hours during the day—and every hour (or even more!) through the night. I’m feeling so drained and honestly starting to wonder if I’m not fulfilling him.

During the day, he’s so fidgety on the boob—constantly wriggling and coming off and on. Then at night, he just stays latched forever unless I gently take him off, otherwise he’d happily stay on all night!

Last night we decided to try giving him some formula before bed, and he slept until 4am!! That’s the longest stretch we’ve had since he was born.

Now I’m just a bit confused about what to do next. Is breastmilk maybe just not filling him up enough anymore? Should I keep going, mix feed, or start thinking about solids soon?

Would really love to hear from anyone who’s been through this—any advice or reassurance welcome! Thanks so much ā˜ŗļø

This is completely normal! I found that when my daughter got a bit bigger, like around that age, she was snacking more because she was busier and nosier during the day so she was making up for milk in the night. As long as he's having plenty of wet and dirty nappies you're definitely fulfilling him! Breastmilk is just consumed differently than formula and it's about more than milk. Maybe he is just wanting to touch base with you more as he's getting more social or he's starting to teethe so he's wanting comfort.

It's not easy but it's definitely normal and it will get better! You can of course combi feed if that's what works for you but your milk is definitely filling him. I wouldn't start solids to fill him up. We did baby led weaning and I found that my daughter wasn't consuming loads in the beginning because it was more about exploring foods. Milk should still be the primary source of food until 1.

Came here to say what said.
There are periods of cluster feeding as they grow and the feeding needs change. Wet nappies is tour tell tale of weather he is getting enough milk.
It’s hard but remember… this too shall pass!

Make sure you're eating 2800 calories and drinking 3L
You're making enough
Keep up the great work mama

But like the others said. If you need to go for it. It's up to you but it is normal

It's so normal! Breast milk digests quickly so it's not that it's not filling them up, bit that it's just needed more regularly. It's also a way of preventing sids as it purposefully doesn't alow baby to get as milk drunk as formula, and the quick digestion means they don't get into a super deep sleep as they wake for more milk. Now, that doesn't make it easy, it's bloody hard and so physically and mentally exhausting. We had nights like that pretty much the first year so it's totally up to you in how you personally feel about feeding and how important it is for you personally. For me though, it was intensely hard but I'm glad I stuck it out, and it has got so much better!

Oh I hear you! My baby is 4 month and a half, very similar to you, he doesn’t get any dummy or bottles so at least I could ask my husband to bottle feed him. I keep expressing but no succoring getting bottles! I’m physically tired and my body feels numb in the evening. He is also a light sleeper and even after letting go of my breast I need to stay for 15-20 minutes so he doesn’t feel it when I get out of bed (we co sleep as he doesn’t sleep in his next to me) 😩

Help! First time mum -

I have a 4 month old and now all of a sudden when he’s been asleep for 1hr30/2hrs he will wake up screaming (high pitched) I’ve tried winding him sometimes that helps, I’ve tried bicycle legs & bringing his knees up but that doesn’t seem to help but he brings his knees up himself sometimes but nothing happens. I’ve noticed since the 4 month mark he has started to struggle passing wind downwards! Any tips?

Big nursing bras!

I’m looking for recommendations for good nursing bras for bigger breasted ladies!

I’m currently in a 38H which seems to be the biggest size done at M&S (UK based mama here) and it’s snug and not as supportive as I’d like. When I look online, they mainly seem to be sized S, M, L, XL etc rather than bra sizes.

Any recommendations please?

Crying during feeding

Hey mams! My girl is 6 weeks on Monday and is having so much trouble with feeding. It doesn’t happen every feed but more often than not she will start a bottle and just start crying as if she’s in pain and she can’t take the milk. I think it’s trapped wind but I genuinely don’t know what to do it’s so pitiful to see her not be able to feed! She’s formula fed and on HiPP Organic.
Anyone else been in this position? I’m pretty sure it’s just a bit of trapped wind that she needs to fart out but can’t! If anyone has any advice I’d be very grateful as I think I may need to tape my eyelids open soon šŸ˜‚
