Hello ladies, I had my 12 week scan on Friday and never got to hear little one’s heartbeat, I did ask and she said that they check the heart at 20 weeks but did show me the heart flickering on screen. Just wondering if this is normal as I always thought I’d be hearing the heartbeat as well as ultrasound?

I thought I was going to hear mine at 12 weeks to! But just the flicker also x

You don't listen in the to the heartbeat at your ultrasounds. You will listen to the heartbeat at your midwife appointments from 16weeks via doppler x

I also never got to hear heartbeat but reassured that baby is healthy, think we’re planning a private scan for 16 weeks to find out what we’re having and to get the heartbeat in a teddy

With our first we didn't hear her heart beat till the appointments after the 20 week scan. They showed us that her heart was going strong and brought up the sound waves but we never heard it during a scan

Hi, I had my 12 week scan yesterday and I thought the exact same thing. They didn’t let us listen to the heartbeat but they showed us the heart flickering. I had a scan at 7 weeks privately and they did let us let us listen to the heartbeat

When I was pregnant with my first they didn’t listen to the baby’s heartbeat at the 12 week scan. At a midwife appointment at 16 weeks they listened in and that’s when I heard it for the first time. Assume that’s what will also happen with this pregnancy - I have my scan next week!

Same I was just shown the heart flickering at the 12 weeks scan but had a scan at 7 weeks in EPU and got to hear it then.

No i didn't get to hear baby's heart at my 12 week scan. I also didn't get ant heart rate measurements either? Did anyone have those. I wanted them just for fun as there's sometimes a difference for gender. I know its not accurate but just nice to think about x

You don't hear the heartbeat at scans. They do that at midwife appointments starting at your 16 week one x

Thank you for the comments, was getting in my head that there may have been something wrong as to why I didn’t get to listen to it! This is my first so obviously worrying about everything 😂 good to have the reassurance on here 🥰

We had a private scan at 11 weeks (part of NIPT) and they did let us listen to the heart beat very briefly. Does anyone know why the NHS doesn’t do this at the 12 week scan? Is it damaging for the baby?

@Anastasia Logan it just isn't necessary as part of the medical assessment when the heartbeat is visualised

makes sense, thanks!
