Ok so I just need to come here and vent. I have a 5m old son and he has fallen off our bed twice in a week. I feel like a horrible mother. It happened so fast. Some say it happens and other ridicule me about it. I feel like I’m failing keeping him safe. Mind you we do stay in an extended hotel and we don’t have much space for a play pen or anything a funds or about nothing so I can’t get him a play mat. Idk what to do

I would be either making him a floor bed or moving the mattress onto the floor.

Can you tuck a pillow under the fitted sheet? I know my son is 4mons and rolls all over our bed. I lay him usually between two pillows that are under our comforter when I am folding laundry to keep him from rolling off the edges.
I’ve never even thought of that!! He’s moving around really good and it feels like sometimes I can’t do anything unless he is napping. I do have a large blanket. I could put under the fitted sheet to try to keep him from going over the edge. Thank you.

You are very welcome! It’s trial and error in parenthood! I hope it helps

You’re not a horrible mother for that. My 5.5-6 month old started crawling and crawled off the bed twice in one day. Then again the next day. Had a bruise on his lil head and everything. I felt horrible about it. But accidents happen!
What I did, before I got my bedside gate things put up, I was just putting a bunch of pillows on the floor all around the bed to break his fall and never leaving him on the bed alone without my FULL attention.

You're not failing, but I would definitely stop putting him on the bed unless you are literally sitting with him. The pillow method mentioned above may work for a while, but soon he will be able to roll/crawl over pillows. My son is almost 7 months and can get over a pillow no problem. I would probably make a little floor bed for him to play on if you're not right next to him so that there's no risk of him falling.

You’re not failing, I know some doctors whose babies have fall. It happens to everyone and my daughter fell more times than I can remember. Babies are resilient. Now I would try your best to prevent it but that’s all you can do. I would try to let him play on the floor and if he’s sleeping on the bed then pile pillows on the edge and put him in the middle so he has room to roll without knocking the pillows off. I would also just keep an eye out for things on offer pages. A lot of people will get rid of stuff for free or close to nothing. I actually just sold a play pen last month for 5$ because I didn’t need it and someone did. But as long as you’re doing your best, you’re doing great.
