Help deciding between pill vs surgery

Hi everyone, I found out this morning I have a silent miscarriage and I was wondering if you could share your experiences of pill and surgery, pros and cons of each one. I need to make a decision today. Thanks in advance!

So sorry for your loss.

I had what they described as a missed miscarriage in 2021. I was 11 weeks plus a few days when I started spotting. The next day I then had a scan with the early pregnancy unit to make sure baby was OK. It was Covid so hubby could go in with me. As they were performing the scan I could see that something wasn't right on their faces. Long story short they said baby was measuring smaller than would be expected and there was no heartbeat. I was distraught.
This was a Friday and they gave me another appointment for the Monday for a rescan to confirm the no heartbeat.
In the end I went into spontaneous labour and ended up in hospital for 2 nights. They thought everything had come out but I was back in hospital a few days later this time they gave me the pill a week later I went for another scan to make sure everything had cleared but it hadn't so had surgery too which cleared everything in the end.

It's hard to say which one was better the whole thing was very emotional and painful.

thank you so much for your reply and I am so sorry for your experience as well. It seems quite hard and uncertain what approach is best. They have recommended watchful waiting for now, but I am still doing research and thinking whether I want to go that route. Thanks again Xx

I'm so sorry for your loss as well

I had a missed miscarriage at 11 weeks in march last year as started bleeding and knew something wasnt right. Went in for an early scan and what was there was smaller than how many weeks I was. I had to decide between pill and surgery and chose surgery. I just didn't want go through or see everything coming out plus I didn't know how long it would take. The operation was 20 minutes and I had about a week to 10 days of bleeding afterwards and mild cramping. It was still very emotional and took me a while to decide I was ready to try again for another baby.

I originally had the tablets and reacted really badly to them, the pain was really intense, very close to full on contractions and I bled really really badly for two straight weeks and ended up in hospital because the bleeding just kept getting heavier. Ended up having to go in for a scan and they found that I had retained a fair bit of tissue that had attached itself to my c-section scar internally so I ended up having to having to have a d&e and since I was still breastfeeding I couldn’t take much in the way of painkillers, and I had to have the procedure under local anaesthetic rather than a general, so as you can imagine, the entire experience was less than pleasant. I know everyone’s experience is different, but honestly it was rather traumatising for me, I wish they had just done a d&e to begin with.

thanks for sharing your experience and I’m sorry you had gone through such a traumatizing time. I am considering the d&e tbh based on people’s experiences with the pill

Sorry for your loss.

I had the aspiration under general anaesthetic. It was bearable!
A friend of mine who had opted for the pill method advised me too as she said the pill was very traumatic and painful and it didn’t even completely work so she had to have the aspiration as well anyway
