Owlet sock worth it or not?

I'm a first time mum to be. I am wondering whether I need to buy owlet sock for our baby girl or not. Will buy one if worth it but looking for recommendations if there is another alternative
They will be sleeping in our room for the first 5-6 months

Its a hard pass for me. Mostly for budget reasons, but also for my anxiety. If I had had one, I would have hyperfixated on the data it gave.

Loved mine at first, the sock was great for reassurance and used until my little one was like 9 months old. But started having a lot of issues with the camera being connected through WiFi and sometimes I’d wake up and the camera had disconnected/ turned off and my little boy had been awake for god knows how long! I’d feel awful! Ended up getting a new camera that didn’t rely on WiFi.

I only got one for my son because he has a heart condition and his oxygen had to be monitored.. if I'm honest I hardly used it.

We tried it on our baby’s first night at home and the alarm kept setting off so it gave us lots of anxiety! We haven’t used it since, but will try again when he is a bit bigger as I’ve heard similar stories from people using it when they’re babies are still tiny x

First time mom here to a 5 week old. I ended up getting it. I didn’t use it for the first week and a half while my mom was here. Honestly having my mom here gave me peace of mind with everything. Once she went back home I started using it. I only use it at night tho while we sleep just in case I don’t hear anything if I’m sleeping. I agree with post above. I used to be a deep sleeper now I’m such a light sleeper and wake up even when he moves an inch in his bassinet. I personally like using it since it gives me the reassurance he’s okay. But this is my opinion. His dad changed his diaper last night and baby peed over it, I had to wash it so he didn’t have it on. I had a lot of anxiety since he slept with it off for the first time in weeks. I kept checking if he was breathing. It does go off if it’s put incorrectly and when I change his diaper cus he moves alooot so it can’t read due to extreme movements. I’ve just dealt with it.

For me my post partum stress woke me up for countless nights. Sometimes still does. My 7 month old still wears it and I love the sleep data to know if he wakes up in the middle of the night etc.

I recommend but everyone has different opinions

My daughter has worn hers since 1 day old. We’ve never had any issues with it and it has come in handy on 2 occasions where my husband has fallen asleep whilst holding her, and she’s turned her face into his chest!

I’d recommend it.

Best thing I’ve ever bought for my son and just got another one for my newborn highly recommended

I love mine! Wouldn’t be able to sleep without it x

Not for me personally. The readings can be inaccurate and they can cause more anxiety than they resolve. I want to trust my maternal instincts and not rely on an external device for reassurance.

I also don't like the idea of EMFs near my little baby's foot.

Avatar

Yes yes yes 10000000x yes! We don’t even look at the data on it, we just have it for the reassurance! X

Best gift I ever received. It helped me sleep. Definitely using it with my next baby.

Avatar

Yesssss helped my anxiety so much !

Not at all. I’m a light sleeper so I hear everything . Never had to use any gadgets for my baby. I’ve also read stories about people saying it’s burnt their babies.

I was told to avoid by a paediatrician as it can cause baby’s oxygen levels to dip so won’t be getting one!

I have one for my baby who is two and half weeks old. I really like it because I know it’ll wake me if there is an issue, I don’t feel like I need to keep looking in the crib to make sure she’s breathing and I sleep much better when she has it on. I don’t really pay too much attention to the actual numbers, just have it on her so the alarm will go off if there is a problem. It’s really helped with my anxiety at bedtime :)

I hadn't even heard of it until it was gifted to me. We didn't use it for the first couple of weeks, when both of us were home and one of us was always awake when the baby was sleeping. Besides, when LO was small, the sock didn't really fit properly and the alarm went off all the time.

We have used it every night now for the past few months. Initially, I was fixated on the data. I would have the app open on my phone and literally just stare at it! 😅 I don't do that anymore, of course! I like to still use it because I can track his sleep during the night.

There's pros and cons to the owlet. I think until my LO can comfortably roll from back to tummy and vice versa, I will probably stick to it (or until he grows out of the sock! 😅)

Best thing I’ve ever brought. I wasn’t going to get one but once I came home with my little girl my anxiety was through the roof. I’ve never had any issues with false readings or alarms going off x

I’ve tried 3 of the most rated monitors and I think they are brilliant,

Nanit monitor with breathing band - bought with my first and use it with my second and I love it. You do have to pay for the sleep tracking option but the breathing monitor is great. We still use the monitor and band with our second as the monitor has a night light, white noise, thermometer and humidity monitor.

Snuzahero - bought this as it was the most accessible in boots when my first born was discharged from hospital with rsv as a newborn and I needed something to ease my anxiety. Liked the options it had and the price point was the cheaper of the 3 I tried

Owlet sock - just got this with my second born and I absolutely love it. We recently had a trip to the hospital with a breathing concern and the data the sock was giving was the exact same as the paramedics equipment so that made me trust it more. I asked a few of the midwives and nurses what they thought of them and they all sung its praises.

I love the owlet. I love looking at his sleep patterns. Knowing how long he slept and how many night feeds he had. I love having the peace of mind. I love it. It does work better once the baby is a little bigger (6-7 weeks) because it fits their foot better. But I would recommend an owlet to any mom. Also, I bought mine 2nd hand to save money and I think thats also a really positive thing to do if you're on the fence about it

100% worth it! My baby slept in our room until she was 7 months old but was not right next to us, she was in a bassinet and then a pack n play and I slept better knowing the owlet was monitoring her. Also we have a Nanit and I do not think the Nanit is worth it.

I like it, but it does always lose connection in the night and that alarm is just as loud.

I used mine from newborn and still using it now with my boy who’s 8 months

37 weeks ! 😬

I literally only have two doctor appointments left until I'm supposed to be due . I'm super excited and nervous at the same time, but I went to the doctor and I'm only one centimeter dilated so I'm just curious if any other first time moms gave birth earlier than their due date or is normal to go past your due date ? TIA ☺️

I’m in the waiting phase for my second baby

Please comment how far along were you when your baby came. I’m trying to see if I have realistic expectations on when my second baby might come. First came at 39W+1 and I’m currently 38W+1 with my second. I’m hoping she comes at 39W like her brother.

Placenta abruption

Hi ladies.
I’m currently 30 weeks + 1 day, I’ve had my midwife appointment which ended up going to triage and having an emergency scan, to then see the Docter who mentioned placenta abruption, but they didn’t really go into to much detail, just told me no heavy lifting, avoid using the hoover 🤷‍♀️ baring In mind I work in hospitality so on my feet a lot etc, also be told to call triage immediately if I have more reduced movements, bleeding or loss of fluids.

Has anyone had any experience with placenta abruption that could in lighten me a little I know everyone’s difference but I just feel a bit lost 😂

Trying to survive third trimester

I’m 30+3, baby is head down and measuring in 94th percentile. I have another growth scan at 36 weeks. This kid is pressing so hard into my cervix, yet simultaneously keeping me from being able to breathe. I’m so nauseous and have slept like crap. How do we survive the last 8+ weeks of this?
