I have PCOS and endometriosis. I have struggled to lose the 40lbs of weight I gained while pregnant. My daughter is 17 months so I need to do something to lose weight. I recently went to the doctor and mentioned that I'm having a difficult time losing weight since having a baby.
The doctor prescribed spironolactone. I was curious of others experience with it so I looked at tik tok (I know). Many people raced about it, but not for weight loss. They are using it for acne.
This is not my problem. I actually (not bragging, but) have really good skin. There weren't really any people talking about using it for weight loss. So before I start taking medication for anything unnecessarily, I'm curious if anyone here has been prescribed it and lost weight? I'm not looking for quick fixes either. I was hoping she would give me resources for diet and exercise, but here we are. I'll take it if it works because I have suffered from poor body image since having my daughter, but I don't want to cause issues with something else just for the sake of looking better. I want to be healthy everywhere. Not just appear to be healthy, if you know what I mean.
Anyway, I'd love to hear your experiences with this medication OR how you've lost significant weight without medication or surgery.
Thank you.

It’s a diuretic. Which is a weird thing for her to prescribe. It’s not a weight loss drug.
Anywho I’ve lost a significant amount of weight (60-100 lbs each time) 3 times. It was miserable and I always yo-yo back up. This time I’m taking Tirzepatide and for the first time I’m not miserable losing weight.
yes. I've never heard of this drug. I'm doing a deep dive and some people say it made them gain weight without any lifestyle changes. Other things are saying it only helps with weight loss of fluids retention. So, like this is just a bandaid?
Then I kept looking and now reading some people have lost over 40lbs without any lifestyle changes..soooo.... wtf??? 🤣😭😭
Ugh, this sucks. I just want to lose weight in a safe and healthy way and now I'm more confused if I should take it.

I would ask the doctor why she prescribed it. Often times, a fix for weight loss is to fix the underlying disease and she may have prescribed for one of your conditions.

i took it for acne for a few years, worked great for that, did burnout weight, and I have never heard of it doing that!!
I have fluid retention in my left leg after having my daughter so my leg always looks swollen. I'm being referred out to a lymphatic specialist at my next appointment. She said this *might* help. So I'm assuming that's also why she prescribed it.
I just really don't like side effects. I took it for the first time last night and nearly fell asleep while I was walking to the bathroom in the middle of the night. This is not typical for me so I'll definitely be calling her today to discuss this side effect and see how to safely come off of the medication. Don't really want to take it if it's going to do that. I enjoy knowing I'm not going to pass out and hurt myself if/when I fall.
never heard of it doing what? Gaining a bunch of losing a bunch?

ive never heard of it being prescribed for weight
got it. Yeah, it seems like a lot of people are talking about it for acne, not weight loss. 😭 I don't need it for acne.

I used it to help stop my hair growth on my face 🤷♀️ it is very weird if it was for weight loss, might be for the swelling...
that must be it, but when I talked about weight loss she specifically said this would help so I dunno. Lol. I think I'd rather wait to see what the specialist says or prescribes because it's not looking like this is going to be helpful with my weight concern so it's strange that she emphasized that over the fluid retention benefits.
Back to the drawing board for weight loss.

If it's due to fluid retention, then I would definitely ask if she can go down to a lower dose or get on a different diuretic.
As far as weight, when you have illnesses, it will cause weight loss to slow so addressing the issue is best. Good luck with the specialist!
