Maternity leave Employment rights?

I have 6 weeks left of work and they have completely changed my job spec including my job title and all my responsibilities, they have done this ahead of advertising my maternity cover apparently to fit business needs which I am fine with but i explained as long as it doesn’t effect me before I go. They have now turned round and said they want me to do the training for it before I go and want me to sign a variation in contract asap. Are they allowed to do this? I thought you had the right to come back to the same job within 26 weeks and I haven’t even left yet and they’re changing it? I was going to see what the job was when I got back and go from there but now they’re wanting me to sign this change in contract before I go I don’t know what to do, do I have to sign it ?

i personally wouldn’t sign, do you have a union rep you could speak to about this?

I agree this sounds like a stitch up and really shady. I would speak to someone for legal advice before signing anything

HR here 🙋🏻‍♀️

Can they change your job before you go on maternity leave? No — not unilaterally. Your employer can’t just change your job title, responsibilities, or contract without your agreement. That’s a variation of contract, which requires your consent and you don’t have to sign anything.

Your maternity rights, which is the important part, If you take 26 weeks or less (Ordinary Maternity Leave) → you have the right to return to the same job. If you take more than 26 weeks (Additional Maternity Leave) → you have the right to return to the same job, or if that’s not reasonably practicable, a suitable alternative role on no worse terms.

Defo give ACAS a call and also Pregnant then Screwed who are a charity set up to support women through pregnancy and maternity leave.

Needing friends!!

Honestly just looking for genuine girl friends 🩷 I’m tired of feeling like I have nobody to call or make plans with. I’d love to meet girls who are down to talk, go out, grab food, have sleepovers, laugh about random stuff, and actually build a real friendship.

No drama, no weird energy, just looking for my people 🫶🏽 If you’re also looking for a genuine friendship, message me! Also making a group chat, comment your snap or insta!!

Anything I can do or not

I went into work to talk about my return to work, which is when my baby is 8 months old. I did three full days and half a day before the mat leave. Well I went back and I can only do three days now and instead of 7.30am till 6pm, I need to change my hours to 8am till 5pm, work have said the can't promise me those hours and they had to reject other people returning because they can't do the hours they need. I am not doing the original hours before mat leave, the reasons
I have to commute to work and it takes half an hour on a good day....
My husband could be on site all day and not be back till 7pm, I need to start dinner, bathe my baby etc
I'm not 100% sure I finish at six bang on because of problems at work, we have a thing at work where we can't go till everyone is ready to go
I am not asking to be a pain, I am asking for actual reasons, I was going to leave but found out I was pregnant when I was looking, I can't always have help from my husbands parents because they are in their 70s, my parents can't do it as my mum is disabled and my dad is her carer. I have no one else that can look after the baby, then my husband's job has started to get busy and he is out on site most of the time, he can't get another job because he has job security where he is and the pay is great, why go somewhere that pays less and he's not got that safety. I wont go back till I get the hours I need but will I win the fight? Thinking of a Union to help.
My boss was like we all got family, I know but I will never let my baby do a full day at my work it's something I am not willing to bend on and yes I work at a nursery.

Little to no help

Is anyone else getting little to no help by friends/family.
When I was pregnant I found out I would be a single mummy. I was promised by my family especially my mum I would get lots of support and help. Since the baby being about 2 weeks old it all stopped I’m lucky if I get 5 mins a week of help. Anyone else experiencing this. I’m struggling bad. Baby is now 11 weeks old.
Any advice x

Couples routine

How much time do you actually spend together? It gets so busy with work, kids, housework etc. Do you spend quality time with your partners everyday?

Looking for remote work ASAP!

Hi all, I'm looking for full time or part time remote work. My most recent work is as a Business Intelligence Analyst with skills in Python, SQL, Tableau, Excell, some Machine Learning and general dashboard building. I've used several different crm/dashboard tools and I am very adaptable to new tools and technology. I've also previously done QA roles for all kinds of tech devices and some IT type work.
Outside of tech I worked in childcare for almost 10 years as a Nanny, in daycare, and in a montessori preschool so I have a wide range of skills.
