Is it weird/bad that my 11 month old is still eating only purées? She gags and sometimes spits up after I give her shredded meat/ veggie mixes

Check to see if she has a lip or tongue tie. Other textures also helps with developing tongue and jaw strength for speech I think

Go to a provider that is a part of the lip and tongue tie association. Some pediatricians don’t know as much about it

Not sure if this helps but shredded meat was too much for my baby at first. You could try ground meat instead. Ground beef or ground chicken etc. The meat puree blends she absolute hated and made her gag out of not liking the taste. We do a mix of solids and purées. (10 months old). The first solids we did were teething wafers, they melt easily. These might be a good place to start if you want to work on chewing since they dissolve easily.

I was told it’s totally normal they are still getting their nutrients and it’s okay if they are still in purées my boy is 10 months and still prefers purées. But totally talk to your kids docs if you have concerns and questions about it

Gagging is normal and how they learn. I would just keep offering a variety of foods and textures

Yes, agreed. Start serving chunkier foods that are mashed, such as avocado, mashed beans, etc. don’t
Have a big reaction when the baby gags. It is normal for them to gag.

I found fish way easier than meat for my 10 mo

Yes it's bad that's she's still on purees. There is some evidence that kids late to true solid food develop food texture issues.
Gagging is fine, that's how they learn and map their mouth. Choking and vomiting, not good.
Start back at basics- banana, avocado, baked sweet potato, scrambled eggs. Shredded meats are difficult because they require a harder chew. Stick with food that you can squish with you fingers until she gets a good grasp on those.
