Hey moms!
Just wondering if anyone has some tips. Our baby is extremely dependent on me. She has been exclusively breastfed for the first 6 months and we now started introducing solids.
- She has difficulties taking the bottle (we already tried over 7 different ones and only 1 seems to work occasionally).
- When she is very sad/crying she gets calm right away as soon as I hold her, and this is not happening when hubby holds her or troes to calm her
- Hubby is very loving and playful at the same time he works. He has less 1-1 time with her and the times he does have her by himself she is crying a lot and he has a hard time to calm her.
When he gives me time to take bath, I have a hard time to actually relax cause I hear her crying on the background.
I really want her to take the bottle easier so hubby can take over feeds especially during the day and make her connect and have more dependancy on her daddy.
When she is calm and quiet I try to let her cuddle up with hubby.
I really want her to feel as safe and comfortable with my hubby as she is with me.
Does anyone have any tips on how we can help hubby and her to bond more?
He does not like to sing songs for her (yet).
But any other tips and tricks are welcome!

Can’t offer much advice as I’m not there yet, just wanted to say your family looks so loving and beautiful! You’ll all definitely figure this out in time. You deserve to take a relaxing guilt-free bath for 20 minutes or so, even if she’s not so happy for those 20 minutes ❤️

Maybe hubby can try taking her for a walk in the pushchair while you have a bath so you have quiet?
Also try putting her between the both of you as much as possible as well as letting hubby try to bond with her alone like you're doing
Have you tried getting hubby to wear a shirt you've worn or slept with when he's alone with baby, and vice versa?

The best advice we received was to let my husband figure it out with her instead of immediately jumping to the rescue. It’s going to be a lot more difficult for him because of not being able to just feed her, but they have to have the time to work through it. It’s like the hardest thing ever when I know she will be comforted easier by me, but it does help them to be able to bond when they work through it. If nothing seems to be helping after a while, then step in.

I really like that idea for a walk! Definitley will suggest that!
And we did not try getting hubby to wear a shirt of mine, not sure if I can convince him to do so hahahaha but I can definitely give it to him as an option!

Yeah, I realized that as well. I try only to step in when he asks. In any way I know he does things differently than me and I want him to be able to just be him and do it his way. It for sure is hard, i sometimes see his disappointed look when he gives baby to me and she is quiet right away which and that hurts, I want him to get that feeling of rest and comfort from baby as well. Its our first and she is only 7 and half months so I am sure it will get better.
He started putting her to bed more often already and definitley think that will help her in the long run as well

@Suzanne if he won't wear one that is yours then you could wear one that is his and then cuddle baby with it and then let him wear it before it gets washed so he can cuddle baby smelling a bit more like mama

Seems like your husband isn’t that desperate for anything to work if he’s refusing to sing, wear your shirt, etc.

It does sound like it's a phase a lot of babies go through but definitely try some things and see how it goes

Biologically after birth mums give off a strong smell so baby always knows when you're close vs far because biologically mum being close=survival=happy. It can just take time to get used to other caregivers and get to know their smells because mums smell is so strong. Eventually instincts get met with learned experiences and being consistently fed and comforted with dad will become embedded in her brain and body.

I would leave the house and let them figure it out. It’s the same in our home, if I’m there she won’t play with Dad or give him attention so I have to leave them to it. They have to learn and build a bond. I don’t want my child forever dependant on just me. Also it’s really discouraging to the fathers if they don’t get enough of a chance.

It sounds like he's trying his best, the reality is that babies aren't rational humans so just want to be with the person that fulfils their needs and gives them the most comfort. I recommend headphones if you're having some you time, getting out of the house or them getting out of the house together. It also helped us going out as a three to places with more people as it reminded her that he was familiar and comforting too so would be much more content being held by him out and about. Same if we had people round. Try to get him as involved in care as possible, nappy changes when he's there, holding her for 2 mins while you go to the toilet, get him involved with weaning. My husband did everything right and she still has a strong mama preference but she also really loves her daddy, they have a wonderful bond. It might take more time than you think, some of them are just like this.
