Son’s 3 end of the month & I can’t get him to eat or even try any fruit or veg. It’s getting to the point where I can tell he’s getting a bit constipated and struggling when going for poos.
The ONLY fruit he’ll eat is bananas and that’s very rare, it has to be whole and if even the tiniest bit at the bottom breaks off he’ll refuse it. Won’t eat it sliced or anything. He eats no veg apart from potatoes/sweet potatoes.
I offer different fruits & veg daily alongside other foods that he likes. I must admit I’m quite a fussy eater however I do love my fruit & eat a variety of it in front of him daily, always offering it off my plate etc. I always get the same response of ‘I don’t like that/no I can’t try it cause I don’t like it’.
I hide puréed fruit in his morning weetabix, and if I did a pie or spag bol for example there’d be hidden veg. But I’m due baby#2 and I’m getting so tired and tbh just want him to eat a bit of fruit and veg without having to hide it. Any tips?
I don’t want to force him to clear his plate because I grew up like that and I think it caused me problems with food. I just want him to TRY things because I know there’d be things he likes he just won’t touch them to even find out if he does or not. Ugh, help please!!

Learn more about our guidelines.I wanted to add as well that he used to try and enjoy things when we weaned him as a baby, especially fruits! I think he’s spent so long refusing he’s just used to not eating stuff now and I don’t know how to break the cycle without forcing him/denying him other foods until he starts trying things - but I don’t want to resort to those😭

What I did with my little girl is I let her her make the food with me what I did was made Mac and cheese and then I put some boiled carrots in the shredded up and I let her see me do it and let her help me make it and she ate it and she knows now that carrots go into there and she eats it completely fine maybe worth a try? You can try it with other dishes as well anything pasta related always seems to work.🫣

Keep offering and be really nonchalant about it. Attach to no outcome (for your own sanity 😆).
My daughter refused ALL fruit and veg for about 9 months. We kept offering, even though it just felt like token gestures every meal and snack time. She’s on macrogols for her horrendous constipation. It was such a huuuuge stressor for me.
In the past 3 months or so she’s just spontaneously tried loads of different veg and some fruit and now loves smoothies, apples, carrots, sweetcorn and sweet potato and the list is growing consistently. If I’m anything more than nonchalant then she instantly refuses though 😅
He will get there, you just gotta be so patient and resourced 🥲 keep smuggling things in his food, as annoying as it is

My son eats bananas sometimes, and had recently started eating potato waffles/smiley faces/chips. But apart from that he refuses to try any other fruit and veg since he turned 2. I give him more dairy to stop him getting constipated
