They bred them to get rid of the strings.

There are two different styles of beans

Are these not two different things?
what do you mean?
no they're the same

lol I looked it up, string beans are an old fashioned term for green beans. As Dana said they got rid of the string in them so theyre no longer “string beans”

I mean that fruits and vegetables are bred to make them easier to eat for modern day people. For example, bananas used to have huge seeds but we eat Cavendish bananas which were bred to get rid of the seeds (the tiny black dots in the middle). String beans used to have fibers you had to spend time peeling off. Now most don’t have that string anymore.
Oh the more you know! I didn't know why it was always called something else. I've never said green beans but wonder why almost everyone else does!

i say both & i’m from the US

I say both- from US
Do you use one in a certain context over the other?

There are green beans and runner beans
runner beans?! I've never heard such a thing

We call them runner beans in my household and growing up.

They are a slightly different bean (wider) but we refer to them the same.

Another vote for runner beans

nah i use them interchangeably i think lolol
Is runner beans southern too?

No I just use what I feel like saying at the moment.
