Guys I think I made the biggest mistake of trying the Ferber method for sleep training and now my baby is traumatised and won’t sleep in his cot or stay in a room by himself anymore (he has been sleeping in his own room since he was 3 months)
HOW DO I FIX THIS😭😭😭

Gettibg the timing right is the real key to this method, if not tired enough they will be furious. Or we find if over tired its a bit ropey. Could make a big thing about routine again? Start an hour out, do a dark living room cool down quiet play and sleepy bedtime snacks, then bath feed story, we found it made it so relaxed the end point was much easier.

I agree with the comment above, make sure your baby is definitely tired when trying any sleep training. Start at bedtime as this is when baby has most sleep pressure and melatonin to help with sleep. I would give baby a break from sleep training for a week or two to remove any of the trauma/ behaviour which have developed when you tried Ferber. I would try controlled crying so at 11 months I would check on baby every 9 mins, if baby stops crying/ screaming for 10 seconds then the timer resets, after 9 mins go in and let baby know youre there but don’t get him out of the cot, then leave, if baby is still going after 40 mins then do a reset/ cuddle break x

This makes me feel really sad- if he's already traumatised from sleep training, why not just not do sleep training at all anymore? Putting baby to sleep is totally natural and they grow out of this on their own when they feel ready, just let your baby lead you on what works for him and he'll get there. It sounds like lots of cuddles and contact with you is what's required to help fix this, not different variations of sleep training!

There’s a Facebook group called “The beyond sleep training project” and they give gentle sleeping advice WITHOUT sleep training
