I am so worried about starting this medication due to the little to no studies on the long term affects of it on my breastfed baby.
Should I take it ? I’m so scared.

Only you can make that decision unfortunately! But I have a friend who took it whilst breastfeeding and there wasn’t any impacts on baby :) and still hasn’t been, although I can’t say it’s ’long term’

One of the most important things for a baby is to have a mum who is well, both physically and emotionally. Sertraline is the preferred option for both pregnant and lactating women due to the very small amounts passed on to baby both through the placenta and through breastmilk.
There will be very few studies on any medication and its effects on breastfed babies due to the ethics involved.

Agree it’s somthing only you can decide, but this paper with a reasonably large study group may help - as it looked at the effects of medicated vs unmediated postnatal depression.
