I have a 3 week old girl and I’m unsure how to do the hot shot method since she’s still using a small bottle. She is combi fed with breast milk but I’m trialling just formula today and tomorrow to see how she gets on. She’s taking 90ml bottles (around 3oz) but there’s no 1oz mark to go off so I am very apprehensive of doing the hot shot method.
I am feeding her with Kendamil first infant milk - the pink one, although I may change her to goats milk as I suspect she may have CMPA (but I also could be really paranoid about this since her nappies are mixed with being a combi fed baby)
Has anyone done the hot shot method with a small bottle? Is it worth it or even recommended?
Thank you :)

We use the nuby rapid cool for my youngest (he’s now 11 months) but have always made the full bottle with boiling water (so fill with 3oz hot water, and 3 scoops of formula) and then pour the whole thing into the rapid cool and it takes 2 mins to cool down x

Boiling hot water into baby bottle to measure the 3oz, pour 2 ozs into rapid cool, mix formula into 1oz in bottle, use the cooled water to fill 😊 (I turn the rapid cool a good 20 times to make sure it’s cool).
With the trial of milk, give it atleast 2 weeks to see a change otherwise babies tummy may be a little upset with the changes of milk. We’re on kendamil as I thought baby was CMPA but she thrived on this milk! Hope it goes well for you 🩷

Hi I’ve been using the rapid cooler for a while and my way is a bit different so my daughter has 6oz of milk so I always measure 6oz of boiling water in a bottle first then pour 3-4 oz of that water into the nuby rapid while I shake that I add 6 scoops of aptimil to the remaining boiling water which by then the flask is ready
Also depending what bottle your using normally there’s a dotted line to indicate 80ml so 90ml would be slightly above it also I would worry even of you do make a little extra milk then she normally has I was make a oz extra just in case

Sometimes the lids of your bottles have the 1oz mark to help you measure, depending on which bottles you have. I know the mam ones do 🥰

We use mam bottles and the lowest measurement on the bottle is 60ml/2oz, so i just used the lid to measure it when she was on bottles 3oz or under.

Yeah when my little one was on smaller bottles, we just had to put it all in the Nuby. Once bottles got to 5oz, we use the hotshot method. X

Not going to repeat what everyone said about the hot shot etc but just wanted to give you some information about the goats milk. Unfortunately goats milk proteins are very similar to cows milk proteins so most babies with CMPA still can’t tolerate it. I would definitely speak to a health professional if you are concerned about CMPA but also bear in mind that at 3 weeks they haven’t worked out their digestive systems yet so gas, weird poops, no poops, straining etc is all completely normal ❤️
