How much are we paying for nurseries?

Sorry if it’s too personal but how much are we paying for nurseries? We’ve been told £601 for 3 days a week for our little one and that includes the government funded hours and don’t know if this is standard or not?

Is this a month or a week? And are you looking at term time only or all year?

A month and it’s all year round excluding bank holidays

Avatar

That does seem quite expensive if that’s with the funded hours and tax free childcare x

This seems closer to the amount I paid when my son got 15 hours, not 30. Do you have a few months of receiving 15hours first? I think it’s likely my youngest will because of when the codes application vs his birthday lands. I’m expecting a month or so of higher costs and then getting the full 30 after.

Avatar

£27 a month, that’s for food only as everything else is covered by the hours. She goes 25 hours a week

(This is for my 2 year old that fully qualifies for 30 hours)
My early May baby starts in April but will be this or less as she’s going less hours at first

Avatar

Currently my eldest goes 16h a week and we pay £0.

He will be going 24h a week from Jan and I will expect to pay no more than £200 a month

It really depends on where you are and unfortunately all nurseries apply the funding differently. For 30 hours we can get 2 days a week for £20 a day. So £160 a month. On top of that we'd be paying full rate of approx £70 a day so £400ish for 3 days for a month.

Our nursery is still expensive too despite funded hours, don’t know the exact figures off the top of my head but I was so annoyed when talking to other mums about their nursery fees. I think every nursery does their funded hours differently but we chose this nursery because of how we felt about it so I guess that’s the price you pay!

Avatar

We were quoted £900 for 2 days without the funding.
So I’m going back in April when she’s 1 and getting the funding and we won’t pay a thing because of that x

Avatar

It does seem a bit high! We’ve been quoted around £700/£750 a month for 4 full days. So the price you’ve been given isn’t far off that for one whole day less a week!
There are some nurseries that do charge more if they see themselves as a premium type of nursery. I know a nursery I used to work at would probably charge around that amount and that’s why I’ve found a cheaper alternative!
It might be worth finding out what their daily rate is and how much their consumables charge is to see why it works out so expensive!
Our daily rate is £80 a day I think, and consumables are £12 for each funded day. Something like that!

Avatar

this seems a lot… my daughter does 1-6 2x a week and 9-3 another. It costs us about £156 - that’s including consumables (£13 a day)

Avatar

In Scotland there’s no funded hours - so we have to pay ~ £450 for 2 x days a week for our 2 year old. Not looking forward to that doubling when my younger son goes too! 😭

Avatar

Ours does fluctuate based on how many days per month but currently for 4 mornings per week for my eldest I pay around £150 per month with the 30 hours. It obviously then reduces with the 20%. This includes consumables and an extra payment for early entry in a morning

Avatar

I pay around £500 a month which includes the 30 funded hours, my daughter does 3 days a week I pay for 6:30am until 6:30pm although she’s doesn’t actually go that many hours a day. It also includes some extra activities like sports, dance and forest school which are a bit extra.

Is it bad of me to think this or no?

My husband has been abroad for work (1 day and exploring for 1 day) for 2 and a half days which means I’ve had both kids (1 year and 4 year old) for 2 and a half days plus cooking, cleaning, taking them to clubs, bedtimes!
He came home late afternoon and said I’m so tired, I just need to chill. I said can you wash up whilst I sort kids dinner out, he said he’ll do it later which means he won’t do it and I’ll end up doing it so I said no do it now please otherwise I’ll end up doing it and he said well you have been home and I’ve been away so you’ve just been relaxing.
Don’t know what planet he is on but having the kids alone for 2.5 days is not relaxing. I was stressed!

When he was away, I did miss him and wanted him to come back but now he’s back, I want him to go away again😂
Is that bad?

Feeding

My son is coming up to five months and I just started giving him oatmeal and rice cereal. When can you start trying veggies or fruits? I only give him the oatmeal or rice cereal once a day right now which is what the paediatrician had said to do. I’m just curious to when anybody tried anything else with their kids cause my son eats a lot of formula and he’s VERY curious when I eat.

Really bothered by this

A friend posted this and it really bothers me because that is exactly how she parents her kid, and it's rather unfortunate because when our kids hang out together, her kid has a meltdown at least 5x within an hour. We have know them for years and it's only gotten worse. My kids will concede to hers, because they don't want to see their friend crying, but it sucks because they give up so much of their toys and enjoyment to keep the peace. We aren't hanging out as much anymore but it's rather sad to think she doesn't intervene more in her child tantrums and just let's it slide

Is this normal

Let’s say you’re at a softplay with your 2 year old, and some friends & their toddlers.
You buy your 2 year old a kids meal - chicken nuggets, beans, and chips. They’re very happy with it and have almost eaten it all.
They’re sat at the table, fork in hand, consistently eating, and have one chicken nugget left.
Your adult friend comes over from behind you, picks up the last chicken nugget, and eats it.
There was no indication that your child wasn’t going to eat it, and they didn’t ask. They just took it with no warning and ate it right in front of you and your toddler.
How you reacting?

Shift worker daddies - advice please?

My husband works shifts (6am-6pm days or 6pm-6am nights) so when he’s on shift we either get about an hour or 2 before he goes to work or an hour or 2 when we gets home with him.

I don’t think people who aren’t married/have babies with shift workers fully understand the impact of feeling like a solo parent sometimes.

Does anyone have any advice? I do have parents who can help but I struggle to leave my baby with others as I always feel like they don’t understand the need for tracking wake windows or feeds and our baby will not sleep unless we black out a room or go for a car drive . Everyone seems to think ‘if he’s tired he’ll drop off’ - no he’ll just get overtired and have to then pay for it during his night sleep. So I feel like it’s just easier for me to do it all myself.

When my husbands off work he is great but I do take the mental load of telling him what to do or even reminding him of wake windows etc because he’s not here and forgets routines. He’s also being tested for ADHD currently so there’s that on top of shift work.

Just looking for advice on how to stay sane/keep routines or share loads with shifts workers?

Thank you ❤️
